How to create this sound in a synthesiser??

Hi guys,
Im a big fan of cosmic gate and the other day i was trying to recreate some of the type of sounds they use in their basslines. Before anyone asks, no, i am not wanting to use their sounds in my own productions, i am simply intrigued as to how the sound was created! They always sound very wide, with at least a couple of layers, usually a deep sub, and some distortion. Despite numerous attempts, i cant seem to create a sound which seems anywhere near as big as theirs. Ive attached a couple of clips for you to hear for yourself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

| I remember a discussion on here a bit about about a Vaz Synth that S.H.O.K.K used for basslines. Think it was the 2K???? Someone will be along soon with the right answer. May be worth you checking out though. Alternatively that 'whoob whoob' offbeat hardtrance style bass could be easily made with using a sidechain or with a synth with an amp envelope and a filter envelope - which should be most these days!! |

Hi, I'm also a big fan of Cosmic Gate. Yeah, I like those basslines also. The way I go about doing this in Sylenth1 is like this:
- osc1 = saw, -2 octave, stereo, 1 voice
- osc2 = sine, -1 octave, mono, phase at around 11 o'clock, 1 voice, lower the volume so you can just feel it but not hear it
I didn't really tried to recreate their sound but rather used it as an inspiration. You could use 2 synths, 1 for saw, 1 for sine and then eq, filter them separately, probably get better results.
It's definitely a saw/sine combo the question is just which synth :) so just play around with these settings.
Also, Clockwork bass has a little hipassed noise added on top of it and they all use subtle sidechaining.
Just follow these settings or I can send you a preset if you have Sylenth1. |

So I messed with Sylenth1 for a few minutes , trying to re create that "Not Enough Time" Bassline..
But still... I only got a fraction of the sound....

Hey that's not that bad. I just tried that myself and it's quite difficult. Then I tried it quick with Sawer and I think I made a pretty good first try.

Sawer has unison mode and when I enabled that, only then did I get a similar sound. Also, I added a bit of delay and reverb on top of it.
That (Not enough time) bass has a very stereo sound to it. There's also a lot of compression and eqing on that bass. And there's also a lot of reverb and delay and I think I even hear a second hipassed saw bass in the background. Their basses are definitely created from saws and eqed, the question is just which synth do they use to make them. |
