More updates on Rogers & Sympatico - Bit Caps

In case some of you don't receive newsletter reports from the RBUA here's one that I just got recently which I thought might interest some of you.

_______________________________________________
Fellow members,

I will be interviewed live on Report on Business Television's "The Bottom Line", hosted by Michael Vaughan, tonight (Tuesday, June 18th) at 6 PM EST. Can't watch it at that time? Not to worry. It will be rebroadcast at 9 PM and then at 1 AM. It will also appear at least once over the weekend.

If you'd like to view the show online, it will be made available tomorrow off of the RoB TV Bottom Line webpage at http://www.robtv.com/channels/hubs/...bottomline.html

The subject of the interview will, of course, be the bit capping issue. Peter Costanzo of Bell Sympatico was also supposed to be present at the interview to provide for some healthy debate of this issue. He is listed at http://www.robtv.com/channels/hubs/guests-today.html as one of the guests. Bell, however, recently had a change in sentiment and cancelled his appearance. Rogers, also, was not interested in having anyone appear on the show tonight. I wonder why?

Regards,

Chris Weisdorf

President and Technical Director,
Residential Broadband Users' Association

my bro just disconnected my from sympatico because of the bit cap, we're looking for other providers in Montreal... there's aei.ca and primus.ca that I know offer it in my area.

how is ?.. its its really that bad.. is there a cap and how much are you paying?

Now i'm paying 25$+tx per month for first 3 months then after 30$+tx/month. No limit. Downloads can go up to 120K/sec at late night. But now its more like 30K :( plus its sluggish, I don't know how to explain the feeling of it. And it disconnects from time to time...

I heard Aei.ca was not bad... I have to talk to a buddy i know who has it. there's istop.com with a 20G limit, but excellent service from what i heard. Actually there's so many companies offering Dsl... you have to search for them :|

Now I want to switch again... its so annoying, ing BELL i'll never forgive them.

Bunch of lamewads  Obviously they know that their reasons for saying that byte caps would "help customers" is a bunch of bull.

They should have shows in Canada like those "Hardball" interview shows in the States... get the Rogers/Sympatico people to speak up, and then have the host prove their logic wrong in front of their face...

I think overall the reason for these bit caps iz cuz the providers are too cheap and feel it to costly to upgrade the existing infastructure to handle the increased download traffic.

Does anyone else here live in a DSL deadzone where there's only cable Internet available?? I find this extremely frustrating since I can't search for a DSL alternative. You know it's only a matter of time before Rogers implements their caps as well.

btw. someone please post a link for a data traffic monitor as mentioned earlier. I'd like to see how much "perfectly legal" data I'm bringing in :]

Does anyone know exactly when Rogers will implement the byte caps? So far I only know about their three-tier system

Apply the 20/80 rule here. if let say 20% of your users are taking 80% of your bandwidth, well, just get rid of them and hike the price by about 15%. You save bandwidth, you get to charge for the occasional people that go over the limit, you keep your service at a perfect level ( no slowdowns ).

Its all buisness people.

ing capitalistic system. Guvernment should regulate this bull. Instead of going foreward, we're going backward. You ever heard of a rich multimedia experience of the future with a bandwidth and transfer cap?

Anyone in the networking buisness knows that bandwidth prices has dropped so low that its just ridiculus to charge for downloads. Its just another way to squeeze people's money once more.

If enough people switch to other companies, these guys will rethink their strategy. And I'm not talking about the 20% here, I'm talking about your uncles, aunts, friends, everyone. Just spread the word. Whoever you know wanting to get high speed just refer him to some/any company.
