| ok, so i have my pc with a monitor attached to it. i want to use another screen but have no room for another monitor the same size. so my question is, can i connect my laptop to my pc with a dvi to vga cable and have the laptop screen as a second screen for my pc setup ? |

I suppose it will all depend if your video card supports this. If there is a connection to do this then it probably will be ok. BUT, if it isn't specifically configured for x2 monitors you may just get exactly the same output on both the PC monitor and the laptop and not be able to move windows between the two.
However ^^ that may be bollocks as well |

no, you can't do this. vga/dvi ports only go one way.
by now you've probably realised that there is no such thing as a female-female VGA cable... or you've actually found one and shorted out your video card. |
