Audio Fire 2 issue....

Seems I can't have an audio app (cubase, Ableton) running with sound as well as a media player. So say I want to follow a tutorial via quicktime and run my audio app as well. I can only get sound in the first thing opened. I get a message on when I open second thing that says analog 1,2 are currently being used by another app. Is this normal with the Audio Fire 2? If so that is a jip, as a $20 soundcard can work both apps, why not a $150 one?

If you're using cubase then go to th soundacrd prefs and select release ASIO driver in background.

It's not the fault of your soundcard (which is an excellent one by the way), it's the fact that cubase is not releasing the soundacrd for other uses.

Great, I mainly use ableton though, do you know how to fix this for ableton?

Oops, spoke too soon....release drivers in background was all ready checked in cubase. Hmmmmmm.

Thanks.

Are you using the latest driver from the Echo website? (not the probably outdated one that came on the disk).

Secondly, I'm not sure but it could be that ableton doesn't give you the option to release the audio driver? Can't help more as I don't use ableton.

I'm really not sure that any card will let you play two sources through the same card at once. Onboard (motherboard chip) audio might let you do it as the audio is essentially (*over simplified) summed before going to the chip for output. Cards that actually use drivers have specific applications and controls so unfortunately I don't think it;s possible. I could be wrong though?

Have your sequncer use Asio drivers

while having you mediaplayer use something like Direct Show or directwave plugin.

i have no problem with this i do it all the time.

because a $20 soundcard doesn't have proper ASIO drivers... it has ASIO that sits on top of normal windows audio (which is crap). proper ASIO drivers lock windows out of the soundcard entirely, on purpose.

I dont use Cubase but Im using Audiofire4 on both Win and OSX and I havent had any problems with this. iTunes, Reason, Logic, youtube whatever at the same time.
Stylz
So are you bragging? Thanks for nothing pal. LOL...on a serious note, Im pretty sure that's because an Audio Fire "4" has an extra analog stereo out pair to dedicate to another audio app.

actually i was only telling u to get another daw lol

I use Ableton mainly (as stated above).

I somehow missed your suggestion Nightshift. I'll try that when I get home.

NightShift-I didn't see an option for driver selection in quicktime preferences.

This is gonna get real frustrating. Maybe I should call Echo.
