If I can't find a name for a track, I just put a subgenre and date it was created.
Date of the track is probably the most important part of the name of it... uh before you name it. |

I use a random word as a name. I make sure I have sub-folders for every change I make. Example:
*projects folder*/Word/1/Word 1.extension |
A thing I miss about FLStudio is that if you did ctrl-shift-s it would save your fite like filename_x.flp where x was an iterating value 1++.
Was nice. :p |

You can use the files created date and modified date though to sort that out. No need to put it in the file name really. |

I usually name my tracks something self disparaging. Like...
"I suck"
"dumbdumbdumb"
Or something nerdy. Like...
"ARP -A"
Or something stupid. Like...
"shwizzle stick"
And then I'll rename it when the track is close to done. |

| all my projects are like "clubtrance005" "hard2009" "crazyride101" "untitled_xxxx" "acid3" "bassmonster" "distortionlead" "miamivice09" |

I have no trouble naming a track after its done... its just I dont like to call it anything till it is done. Feels like I am making something up before I actually do the creating. :p |

Nice post.
| quote: | | The first is to think about using your real name as your artist name, if you are a solo act, and not pick some meaningless name from the online artist name generator that I'm sure exists out there that come up with crap like "Unaffected Electricity", "Truncated Toiletries" or "Conjugated Verb". |
"Truncated Toiletries." :stongue:
I think that name is goofy enough that I would actually remember it, though. |

I just use numbers. "046-03" (the "03" means it's the 3rd save, because I spin off new versions often in case I mess something up horribly and need to go back).
Why waste time and creativity trying to hammer out a name that you aren't going to use? |

| Just an interesting observation (to me, at least) that no one here names their track early on with a subject in mind, feeling or experience that they want to convey, etc. That's often how it is done by composers of non-dance music. You take an idea for subject matter and compose music that you think conveys that message. It's not that there's a right or wrong way to do it, just different. I suppose the reason is that instrumental dance music is ultimately just trying to convey one message: shake it. :p |

i also tend to name project files by the quality of the work in progress too e.g.
"ING FINISH THIS"
"COME BACK AS SOON AS YOU HAVE STUDIO MONITORS"
"JOKES HAHAHAHA"
"REALLY ING HIGH"
"CHEESY EURO GALORE"
etc |
