Only time you should get a mac laptop[anything] is when you hate music.

What synths, romplers, effects, etc. do you have or plan on having in the near future? A 2.0 GHz Core2Duo with 3GB RAM will run Live with zero problem - it's processing the synths & FX and loading samples that drain its resources. The HD speed (5400 RPM) is a bit slow, but that's the standard speed for laptops.

One bit of advice I will give you is that, if you do buy a Dell, I highly recommend wiping that hard drive clean and reinstalling the OS without all the extraneous crap that Dell installs on its machines the minute you open the box. Or, see if you can request a bare-bones (i.e., OS-only) installation when you order it. Some of the crap that Dell, HP, etc. installs on their computers can really slow it down, use up RAM and HD space, interfere with drivers for your audio card & MIDI controllers, etc.

Yeah that damn crap that comes pre-installed on laptops is a pain in the ass.

Ahhhhh..good advice on the requesting os only laptop. i'm thinking it's going to be mainly for digital dj'n and just getting ideas down as far as producing goes....so not really for going all out and producing full completed tracks. Maybe some slyenth1 and simpler and vengeance sample cd's.

So tracktor pro and getting ideas down in ableton should be no problem then? If so that sounds like a good deal for $449.

Yeah no problem, that dual core is pretty good.
