DJ RAP

has been the undisputed queen of the turntables and the number one female dj in the world, simultaneously a label owner, producer, and recording artist. She has been a prime mover, the prime female mover in fact, on the jungle and drum'n'bass scenes. She has more than a decade's worth of seminal dance classics to her credit, with several mix compilation CDs, a Sony artist album and upwards of 20 releases on her own drum'n'bass imprint, PROPER TALENT UK.
And now she is going to leave her mark on the house music scene. In 2004 DJ Rap founded a brand-new label, IMPROPER TALENT, to provide an outlet for her growing interest in house music. Despite an exhaustive touring, publicity and DJ schedule, Rap still finds time to return to her studio to work on her forthcoming artist album to be released in 2005. Four years ago her first album, Learning Curve, was released on Sony in the UK and on Columbia Records in the USA and ended up selling hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide.
Born Charissa Saverio to an Italian father and an Irish-Malaysian mother in Singapore, Rap spent her childhood traveling the world - Indonesia, Malta and Africa were all home for a while. Her stepfather managed luxury hotels and she grew up living in the palatial surroundings of Raffles in Shangri La. As a child her two loves were playing piano and horse-riding. She'd practice the piano six hours a day and spend the rest of her time in the stables dreaming of being a pianist. When the family moved to Southampton, England in her early teens, she discovered pop music for the first time and after leaving school took time out to travel the world, backpacking through Greece, Turkey and Europe. She eventually returned to London and joined a legal firm, first as a secretary, then training to be a solicitor. Her life, for the first time in years, seemed to be following a normal, everyday course. It was from this bliss that Charissa morphed into DJ Rap. "She jacked in her job, kicked out her difficult boyfriend and discovered raves."
Following the success of her major label debut during a show, CALVIN KLEIN approached her backstage where he personally offered her a chance to become a Calvin Klein model for the DIRTY DENIM campaign. The campaign was released in 2002 worldwide to much acclaim. This would also lead to a CATERPILLAR billboard campaign in Europe. Over the last year TWIX was getting ready to put in place an 8 million dollar campaign to reach out to a new generation. Rap was chosen to represent TWIX and not only starred, but also produced the music for the commercial, which has since been nominated at the Dancestar awards. Rap has appeared and been the cover girl for numerous national and international newspapers and magazines, including the recent national cover for the Weekly Calendar. She is experienced in front of the camera and has been involved as a host and guest on many talk shows, variety shows and award shows. Rap has appeared in five of her own music videos as well as co- starring with the artist BT in two of his music videos. Rap was also the first female artist to ever be sponsored by PLAYSTATION and has also done music for a number of their games.

This year Charissa celebrates the first ten years of her career and her foray into house music by compiling and mixing a CD of classic house tracks to form part of the double-CD compilation "Chemistry" which will be released by Armani Exchange in October 2004.
"I can remember when my biggest dream was to be on a Raindance flyer," she closes. "Once I'd achieved that I found myself constantly on the look out for other things to stimulate and motivate me. From as far back as I can remember, my goal has been to sing songs to huge audiences but if someone would have asked me ten years ago that DJ-ing would open those doors for me - I wouldn't have believed it. Although I really enjoy touring and singing with the band, the best part of what I do is when I get up there and play great records - I'm a DJ at heart - I just want to get the crowd moving."

Reid Speed
When Reid Speed began spinning records in 1996, she first generated curiosity as one of few female DJs at the time. However, she quickly earned respect for her talent in the highly competitive NYC scene. By the summer of 1997, she was working with rave promoters, Stuck on Earth Promotions and the following year as a member of the Direct Drive crew. At these events, she cut her teeth playing alongside the top names in the genre.
1998 found Reid working at DJ Dara's Breakbeat Science, the first record store in the United States to specialize in drum & bass records. Capitalizing on their large and widespread customer base, her demos soon spread, which led to touring in the United States, Puerto Rico, Ireland, Canada, and Mexico. A 1998 visit to England sparked an interest in UK garage which inspired her to promote her own events.
The 2001 release of her debut mix CD, Resonance, yielded the singles "Mr Fix It" with Ming & FS, and "Picture This" with DJ Seen. In support of the release, a 40-date tour sponsored by Mixer magazine introduced her sound to an even wider audience. 2005 saw collaborations with MC Dino and DJ Swamp on a full length album. In March 2006, her remix of Disorder's "Deadline" was released on Acumen Records.
She is now based in Los Angeles, California, where she manages Breakdown, an event showcasing Electro and Nu skool breaks.

Jen Lasher

One night, in her hometown of Washington, DC, Jen Lasher, a young girl at the time, was exposed to something that would change her life forever. From a very early age Jen was introduced to classical music through her piano training, which began at the tender age of 7 igniting the musical spark within her. She loved everything from the period and beyond embracing classical music, opera and theater from artists such as Bach and Mozart and her favorite musical, Phantom of the Opera.

Jump ahead to age 14, just 7 years later.
Some friends took Jen to a new type of musical gathering where she quickly fell in love. She experienced for the first time a symbiosis of lights, rhythmic music, and a pulsating crowd driven by the universal consciousness that quickly became a part of her. This intoxicating sound consumed the young musician with a fresh understanding and deeper passion for music.

After seeing many DJ performances from a dancer's perspective, Jen quickly realized that she belonged behind the decks. Buying turntables and teaching herself to mix, she ambitiously pursued her new craft.

"A top notch turntablist." Benjamin Leatherman - New Times, AZ

By the age of 19 Jen had already toured throughout the US and was gaining international recognition. She also had frequent performances at the World-renowned Buzz nightclub (Washington, DC) and was offered her first residency by Lonnie Fisher’s Ultraworld Productions at club Sonar in Baltimore, MD.

"D.C.'s Princess of Darkness" Mary Morris- Remix Magazine

Jen also fell in love w/ Goth/Industrial music that created a nice balance and landed her a second residency @ Alchemy in DC. It remains one of the biggest nights in the country for the Goth/Industrial genre bringing such names as VNV Nation, Covenant, Shiny Toy Guns, Combichrist, and many more. This gave Jen an opportunity to play alongside some of the biggest names in the scene. Also to develop her diverse musical style while gaining experience throwing large events and booking bands.

As a result of her early DJ travels Jen developed a deep friendship w/ DJ Icey and Baby Anne. They encouraged Jen to pursue her dream of making music by supporting her on tour, working with her in the studio, and inviting her to join Icey's label Zone Records Inc. In the studio, Jen co-wrote and sang on Dj Icey's CDs "Different Day" on System Recordings as well as the closing track on his latest CD release "Disco Rodeo" on Moist Music. She and Baby Anne had a billboard-charted CD of their own, "Assault and Battery," on System Recordings which included Jen's driving Industrial influenced single "No More Tears." This year after branching out to work in the studio with Glitch and Tommie Sunshine, their track "Emotion Commotion" landed on Tommie's latest CD "Ultra Rock Remixed" on Ultra Records.
"Lasher's vocal synthpop mix bears and industrial slant, will quickly become the guilty pleasure of any electro snob." Assault and Battery Review - Jen Boyles - URB Mag

Jen has made quite a stride becoming one of America's most beloved electronic artists. With her unique style both in appearance and live vocal performance/DJ Sets she continuously shows that she is a step up on the competition. It has been a few years since her humble beginnings and she now has racked up a nice list of productions/ co productions and vocal performances. Jen Lasher is a music monster and she is poised to take over the world in the not so distant future. Guaranteed to make the crowds lose control and fall in love w/ her at the same time. Put this all together and you have something that the whole world can, and soon will love.
