Erasing

Tearing something down
Extinguishing a fire
Igniting a fire
Applying the finishing touch
Transferring between domains
I'm uncertain how things such as driving a car, using a telephone, or walking past a motion sensor light violates any of these prohibitions. Taking a less literal view one could easily conclude that the prohibited tasks are those that would normally be associated with the work of running a home or earning a wage at the time the Talmud was written and; therefore; extrapolate that all tasks presently associated with the work of running a home or earning a wage should also be prohibited; however, even with that interpretation I'm uncertain how walking past a motion sensor light would violate these prohibitions. I'm certainly no rabbinic scholar; but, it seems to me that this is a more a case of people acting on a misconception of what their faith demands as opposed to what it actually demands. |
