[DUMB QUESTION ALERT!] Waldorf Largo users, help! [DUMB QUESTION ALERT!]

Two things that have perplexed, angered, and given me nightmares thus far with Largo....

1. Creating patches and subsequently patch banks and saving them properly. The explanation given for this in the manual is faulty. It mentions save features that do not exist, and fails miserably at trying to teach a noob like me how to make, save, and load sounds. Please tell me it's possible for me to create 128 sound banks without pulling my teeth out and running them up and down a chalk board.

2. Am I just stupid, or are all the presets (regardless of their folder location!) just in a pool together? When I cycle through the presets using my Novation controller, it jumps from bells to pads to FX to leads to bass! The sound bank(s) appear to be completely inoperable with regards to categories! (WTF?!??!?!?!) - Why even bother telling me the category of the sound if you arn't going to categorize the sounds!!!!!!! (DDDUUUUUUHHHHHH)

I read a german review about the Largo and they said with the update 1.1 will come a preset library.

128 sound banks?

That would take you forever Stephen - a sound bank is 128 patches within that bank. 128 patches = 1 bank.

What you would do is pick the JDM preset bank for example and choose the first preset. When loaded, go to the layer select drop down box and choose init sound so you can start to program your first sound.

Then you would move onto the next sound in the bank and so on...

When you have programmed all your sounds you would go back up to layer select, drop down the box and select save bank, give it a name and save it.

Now when you want to load the bank back in, go to layer select and choose load bank, find your bank and select load.

Yeah, the presets cats are not very good at all. I am also exp a bit of lag when choosing diff sounds. It will pause for a second before choosing the sound.

As TP mentioned, Largo 1.1 might iron a few things out

;)

Thanks. I ended up figuring it out before I got here, but perhaps Waldorf should hire you to start writing their manuals. Not only does it not explain things properly, it flat out has terms (IN BOLD LETTERS AND DEFINED) that do NOT exist on the drop down menu, LOL.

Glad to see they are aware of the preset problem. They really need to get that organized.

Despise all this, I am extremely happy with the sounds I've been able to get out of Largo. The filters are even better than I expected, and being able to do the 4x layering in 10 seconds is amazing. It uses 50% of my processor to run it all at the highest quality, but I can always bounce it to audio if needed. I've been able to create some insanely thick and warm pads with this. Going to try and make some nice saw basses today.

Is there a way to get this in English?

So what do you think of Largo so far?

Positives / Negatives?

I honesrtly havn't used it enough to give a concrete opinion but so far I am impressed. The sound quality is the most surprising thing to me. It is distinct and extremely pristine. If nobody told you and you had to choose between Largo and some older VSTs that are still heavily used and respected, you would be able to pick out Largo because of its sound quality in my opinion.

The patch bank thing has me steaming however. That is inexcusable. How in the world was that not corrected in beta testing? How in the world do you release a product that doesn't categorize its presets, yet tells you what category the preset SHOULD be in. It's LOL. I might have to make a youtube video of it. It's one of those things you have to see.

Oh yea, and when scrolling through the patches from the drop down menu, it doesn't bother to tell you which category they fall in. So unless you've memorized the category of a preset, you're going to be clicking random presets without any idea of what they are.

I still can't get a bank to load completely. It loads the last saved patch only.....

any idea when they are going to release v1.1 ? This whole bank thing is quite a problem for me. I do not like saving single patches and won't start making banks until they're fixed.
Waza
can anyone post any sample of the sounds from the largo..

say basses, leads and pads just to here what it sounds like.

thanks

Yeah, it's a pain in the arse the cat/bank system. This may be improved in the next update (fingers crossed).

No idea when they are going to release the next update i'm afraid (working on it now I suppose)

It may be something that you have to put up with until it gets sorted. I must admit it's pretty crap.

On a positive note I really like it although not got too much into it (busy doing other ) but just throwing a few waveforms together it sounds fantastic. Well impressed ;)

I need to go and fiddle with it a bit

I just sent them an email and absolutely jazzed their ass beyond belief. I'll be surprised if they bother returning it.

I'll record a few presets already in Largo and post them. I can't be bothered with tweaking sounds because they can't be saved properly.

Stephen - that sounds like a royal PITA. I hope Waldorf gets it worked out soon.

In the meantime, I'll just reiterate what I stated in an earlier Largo thread:

I don't know if it's the annoying way that Waldorf has been stalling and trying to make us think that it was just about done for the last 3 months, or the less-than-impressive mp3 demos that I've been hearing over on KVR, but my interest in this synth is waning. I may pick it up some day if/when it actually hits the stores, but I no longer have plans to rush out and buy it as soon as it's released. With Waldorf's track record, I can't imagine that they're going to work out the initial bugs very quickly, so I may just take a wait-and-see attitude to see how many problems it has and how long it takes for the initial update before taking the plunge myself.
