I've listened to a bit of dubstep, including some Caspa & Rusko stuff which I really hated. However, based on the review below, this sounds good. Downloading.

Also, yes, the artwork is awesome.

I gave this a listen while I was doing some reading, so I wasn't paying close attention to the technical aspects. Nothing stood out as jarring and the flow from track to track seemed nice and smooth.

This is a different style of dubstep to what I'm familiar with, which I suppose is the more British side of things. I can see how this side of dubstep crosses with dub techno. This set was very mellow, and nicely atmospheric.

If I have a criticism it's that the set didn't really seem to go anywhere or reach anything. For a chill-out set it was nice because of the steady mood, but if I were listening closely I think I'd probably get a bit impatient with this in parts because it's more or less the same vibe throughout. For me, a vibe can only be maintained across a home listening set without variation if it's a very distinctive or unique atmosphere.

That said, that criticism is harsh because it was done on the spur of the moment, with no pre-planning. Whenever I do a set for TA I plan it out for aaaages: I make a big list of candidate tracks with tempos, keys and moods from which the tracklist is taken, and I take a couple of draft runs seeing if things work. Mixing on the fly with just a box (or HDD) of tracks makes it much harder to get flow and programming perfect.

Overall: cool mix, I enjoyed it.

Austin I really enjoyed this set. With every dubstep set that I listen to I come to appreciate the genre more. And I have a pretty good idea what kind of dubstep I like, and it's definitely the kind that's included in this mix. I love how the melodies are really chilled out and smooth, while the basslines are kind of crazy and all over the place. It's a really nice contrast which I think is ultimately what makes this music so cool. I think you did a great job in the mixing department and the tracks were really all very good. Should definitely be keeping this on my MP3 player for a while.

My thoughts very much echo System-J's. I've listened to a bit of dubstep which tended to be closer to big beat/grime and was dark, disjointed and overly aggressive.

In comparison, each track in this set has wonderful coherency and a nicer, ambient feel. I really enjoyed it, to my surprise. I definitely agree that this stuff has more of a dub techno feel, and it's interesting. Some of the tracks feel really fresh and have very unique ideas. I think my favourite track was the last one, it was quite sinister and I loved the sheer repetition.

Your flow is great; the advance of each track was good and the mood remained appropriate the whole way.

Mixing was pretty good, though there were a few tiny bits (29:40, for example). Overall though, I thought the mixing was excellent. I think you have improved markedly since Dog Days and It's Just The Chemicals.

Keep up the good work mate. :)

Forgot to comment on this. But yeah, me and Ralph listened to this a couple times last week and we dug it. Lots of great tracks and full of the dubstep sound I love.

I wouldn't have a clue about dubstep. Gonna listen and learn.

Thanks very much for taking a listen guys. I just went through this again yesterday and it's really the first mix I've been able to listen to multiple times and still be decently proud of it.

:)

Sorry I can't really give you much in the way of criticism as I really have no knowledge or experience with dubstep. Really like the tune early on which reminded me of the tek classic Man Alive. Really good mix I thought and gonna keep it on my phone for a while.:)
