Effected
This might be a track I actually develop a lot further so I'd like some criticism on the rough draft, if you would be so kind. |

not bad mate defo needs to be completed, because it has a nice summer house feal to it.
also you may want to take out some of the effects cos things got a bit tiring ;) |

Well, it sounds a bit "dry". Also, the "main" sound feels a bit too big in the mix.
Not bad though. |

yeah need a little more in it to me and the main riff is too loud.
maybe more percs too. |

EQ the main riff, because it sounds way too muddy. Alternate the main riff - i.e. slowly bring it in and change it around every now and then, because it sounds too repetitive. Also remove the tg, because it sounds awful. That's a nice melody starting at 1 min mark, but I wouldn't automate panning on it, but it's your call.
Anyway, I think it has potential, but you need to change it up a bit, make it interesting. I'd start with the main riff for 16 bars, then drums for 16-32 bars and then start bringing the riff back in slowly, then a short break where the melody kicks in, buildup, everything together,... but that's just me. |

I'm assuming you mean the gate? Yea, I never really liked that either, I was just looking for some thing extra for a little overkill.

Funny thing is it's not automated panning. It's just a flanger that I kind messed up and got a cool stereo phase effect. I like it but I will admit it is a very strong pan.
@ all, thanks for the comments. It's always nice to have an unbiased opinion. |

Go easy on the effects.
1) There's too much flangering, turn the wet knob down a bit.
2) Delay also. I think the timing is a little higher than what it should be.
3)The kick needs better eq'ing on the low end and mayb raise a little on the high end.
4)The hi hats and riffs sound ok to me.
I recognize the guitar-ish sound. It's from a fruity plugin. I used it in one of my old tracks in fruity. You can check it out on my myspace www.myspace.com/sevengreenlights (the track is called 'underworld'). i didn't have much knowledge about production then. There's no automation, vsti's, eq-ing or a proper mixdown in two of my last tracks. The only one I actually spent time with those things are in 'dreamcatcher', which i made in Reason. The rest were done on fruity with samples really mangled.
You need to spend more time with eq-ing and building more elements, like string or pad, leads, bass, etc... |

| the main chordish melody and the second melody, both sound very familiar, where have I heard something similar? ...male vocalist... |

Wow, that's almost embarrassing. I came up with the chord prog while I was sitting at my piece of keyboard at like 1am. This isn't even the first time, I once almost completely recreated Loving You by Minnie Ripperton. on accident.

You are 100% correct. It's called Plucked! It doesn't do much but I really like the sound you can get from it. You just play around with it a bit and it sounds great. |

Not bad, but too much flanger, and still sounds a bit empty at the moment mate.
Needs more percs, some pads and bit more reverb, and just filling out a bit with some other sounds, effects etc.
Keep at it mate. |
