Ivory is really good but like some have said is too big in size! Grand 2 i think is really good. You just have to eq and add ambience.

Steinway & Sons.

Why do you want to emulate the sound of the grand piano?
Why not just get a real one and record it down?

redwings is not bad, but to get a good sound out off any pianos is down to reverb and Stage Presence.

I've been playing piano since I was 6 years old, and to date I still think the Bardstown Bosendorfer is the best for your money. 'Course, you'll need about a gig of free memory to use it properly...

I can second that. East West Play Piano sounds AMAZING. I've had even more experience on Ivory which also sounds fantastic (the two of these are bar none the best pianos available, if you truely don't want to compromise quality, these are the ones to use)

also equally important, don't use pianos on spring keys, make sure you have a proper 88-weighted key control. I highly recommend Kawai (portable models) as they have nailed the touch way better than any keyboards i've felt (which in most cases, the lesser brands feel like plastic garbage)

personally i think pianoteq sounds awful, i can't believe how popular it is (as a piano major maybe it makes me more critical)

Here's my opinion of EastWest's PLAY engine - do some research, ask a lot of questions, and know what you're getting into before spending that much money on it. @Stephen - if you think your Largo woes are bad, I highly recommend that you search a lot of forums (e.g., soundsonline, gearslutz, KVR, etc.) before going the EW route. The PLAY engine has been very problematic for a lot of people, myself included.

I purchased Voices of Passion ($450), which uses the same PLAY engine, a little over a year ago. I was skeptical because a lot of people were apparently having issues with it (crashes, disappearing GUI, samples not loading, etc.), but I bought it anyway. It worked fine for few weeks and I was pleasantly surprised. Then, one day out of the blue, I started having the widespread GUI issues, then it started crashing/freezing repeatedly, randomly "forgetting" where my sample library was located or which samples were loaded in a project. Even after several updates were released, I was still having issues with it. It's just not reliable enough for me to use it in a project, so I haven't touched it in months. The worst part is, EW doesn't allow license transfers and selling a registered copy is strictly forbidden, so if you're one of the many that has major problems with it (seriously, do some research), you're stuck with it. Also, it requires iLok, in case that's an issue for you (FWIW I have several iLoks/SynchroSoft keys, so it didn't bother me and I've had no major problems with them).

For all I know, the major issues may have been worked out now - I haven't had a need for it in a long time so I haven't even checked for the latest updates. But, I do see the occasional rant on other forums, so approach it cautiously is my advice. Good luck.
