ok last night was my school formal(or prom night or debuton or whatever else its called) and anyway here i was with all my mates and everyone looked so good and everything was just right (man the women looked amazing) so anyway when your feeling so happy theres no better thing to do then: DANCE.

Ok i'll give it to the DJ, he had a good track selection, but man his mixing was hopeless! i don't know if this happens in other areas of the world, but this guy was just moving the cross fader from left to right whenever he felt like it, no skill involved....AND IT SOUNDED CRAP....this happened ALL night...AND HE GOT PAID FOR IT!

What i'm trying to suggest here is that laws should be put in place where guys like this should not be allowed to get within 10ft of a mixing console or face prosecution.

So anyway if there are any laws you think should be in place, whether it be about dj's or electrnic music in generral, now's your chance to put your ideas down.

enjoy
;)

Some ppl are just WAYYYYYYYY too obsessed...

I just hate Dj's who can't fade properly... even if the tracklist is great it still ruins the entire clubbing experianse, to be more specific- I have this freind who happends to be a very populer local DJ, Iv'e been to a couple of his gigs and man... I can't describe it in words!
Not only that he didn't know a thing about fading but he was also screaming like "put your hands up in the air" every few minutes, anyway... better stop now before I start bitching on and on :stongue:

Haha, they should open up a school for djing, and make it mandatory before you can become a dj. That way all of the dj's wouldn't be allowed to actually perform in public.:p

no offense to anyone who is a high school DJ, but i honestly dont think you can expect TOO much from them. their names are not dj tiesto or anything. but i draw the line at mixing brian mcknight (whom i LOVE) and sandstorm (which i like a little bit)........the guy actually did that. oh well :)

omg im gonna be a junior next year.....got prom tips ;)
Strike
well
i've been to this dance once where the DJ doesn't even bother to fade
he juss stops the music, and plays the next song...
HOW LAME!!:whip: :whip: :whip:
got paid around $300 too
Dj Fred Lamar
thats how are prom was......the dude sucked MAJAR ass.......he would go nto the next trk all unmixed or wait till about 10 sec. before song was over to through in some high BPM song from a slow song.........while all this was happening.....the crowd just stood there thinkin how gay this Dj was.......

hah hah, funny you metion that, because i was lucky enough to be with one of those amazing woman on the night, never expected it either. Anyway i suggest you be yourself (how lame i know) but trust me theres no point in actually 'trying' to score, it will happen naturally if it's ment to be. Well yeah there my say ;)

acutally there is a DJ school.. sponsored by vestax.. and u get a degree or certificate or something when u graduate. i think its in UK somewhere..

and a DJ license, they have these.. but its for DJs who mix CD's. I forgot exactly how it works..

im in highschool and a DJ, atleast I know how to mix decently.

afew weeks ago at school there was an event, and some guys was spinning hip hop, and he was great at mixing it.. but then some other guy came on and just made a mess of everything, it sounded like garbage.. but noone was able to tell him, or get him to stop. and then they did a scratch session.. oh man I wanted to be shot. the guy seriously had no clue what he was doing, everything was off timing, and it went on for ever.. and when he was finally done, everyone clapped, and the guy thought it was cause they liked him .. but really,, it was because he finally stopped his noise pollution.

another story:

I was listening to a live broadcast from a local toronto club called "berlin" and there was some DJ on.. and he was spinning dance / euro trance. and when he mixed... .. . he cut to the next track, but at the worst possible times, like in the middle of a sentence in the track. the beats were lined up, but the mixes were just plain in the wrong place! I dunno what this guy was thinking. he did about 4 mixes like this, but luckily he actually did some good mixes later on.

so the moral of my story:

dont perform infront of an audience if u suck, or dont know what ur doing. :tongue3

Tak
Just be thankful you don't go to my school.
Our ball had the worst DJ i have ever see, to give you an idea he played the HOCKEY POKEY.

lol@ the Berlin story. My gino brother goes there every Thursday (almost) and I know the mixes you're talking about, total and utter complete CRAP CRAP CRAP!!! I couldn't believe it, how somebody could even be hired when they do garbage mixing of that calaber. I'm just really really glad there are SOME dj's who spin that style of music and are decent. It's just jokes the entire time until they get more practice.
