Anyone else like La Peņa? To a lot, it may sound like generic tech house but I imo their tracks have great mastering and are really groovy, even though they use a similar formula for most of their tracks. It's plain but it can really make people dance. Ricardo Vilallobos played some La Peņa tracks when I last saw him and even though the crowd didn't know the songs, it made them dance.
The first song I discovered from them was 'Cheesecake' which began to get played out a bit. But then they've had good releases over the past months.

They sure aren't peaktime bangers but for what they are, filler tracks, they do a pretty decent job.

i used to play this kind of stuff but have completely moved on. the problem i had was theres nothing specific - theres no melody, no vocals, theres nothing obvious that i can remember to identify it.
when i dj, i decide what to play next by my memory of what a track sounds like. its hard to remember what a track sounds like when they are so close to being reduced to just drum loops. its so much easier to remember what tracks sound like if they have a melody, a chorus, some memorable lyrics, you know, complicated stuff like that.
add to that the problem of remembering what tracks are by associating a file name on your computer screen or some sharpie black marker scribbling on a cdr and it becomes that much more difficult.
i was somewhat decent playing this type of stuff in 2006 when i had it on vinyl. that's because i had a unique visual thing to associate with each track. its kind of like how (for most people anyway), its easier to remember a person's face than a person's name, the same applies to djing. and when tracks are so minimal and stripped down to near nothing, it makes it that much more difficult.
