The NEW DEAL is to play Toronto’s Mod Club Theatre presented by Nufunk concerts on Thursday, July 16th, 2009, presented with local breakbeat DJ legend Big League Chu. The band, will also be headlining the Evolve Festival in Nova Scotia, an event which has recently been named by Outside Magazine as “one of the top 25 Outdoor Festivals in North America.”
Since the The New Deal's beginning, their improvisational interpretation of House, Trance, Breakbeat and Drum'n'Bass has brought traditionally electronic music to the live music scene. The band now find themselves at the forefront of a new genre of music, dubbed "Live Electro", and have risen to the top of the scene, playing to hundreds of thousands internationally.
The New Deal's almost eleven-year career has produced nine records, spawned countless Live Electro bands, garnered numerous award nods and continues to inspire an ever-growing audience throughout North America who flock to their sold-out concerts.
Their upcoming hometown Toronto show marks a time in the NEW DEAL’s career where the their sound and showmanship have been taken to a new level. Drawing ever-increasing audiences filled with new faces, this band exemplifies the idea that grassroots popularity can be a truly satisfying slow-burn that never stops growing.
By the time of their Toronto event they will have just returned from their first tour of Japan, sold out shows in Chicago, New York, as well as played a key festival appearance at Red Rocks in Colorado. The band will continue with international touring through the summer and fall, and has plans to push the improvisational envelope with a new live album release in 2010.

Big League Chu

Colin Chu, better known as Big League Chu, is simply the leading DJ talent in Canada's breakbeat scene today. After over a decade of DJing, his name is synonymous with the funky, party-happy sound that's become Chu's rallying call - and it's one that crowds answer faithfully. Whether it's at his residencies at Toronto's legendary Breakfest events, The Make It Funky Jams, or the large one-off shows that Toronto boasts. In a city renowned as one of North America's largest party scenes, Chu has played alongside the worlds finest, allowing him to develop his own distinct style of breaks. Chu's sets can vary from hard beats to melodic funky down tempo sounds, but always remains a crowd mover. The born and raised Torontonian began spinning in London, Ontario while taking his undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology at The University of Western Ontario. Chu quickly garnered attention at local parties, leading to gigs in Toronto, including the Dose event in the summer of 1999 when he was asked to fill in for Barry Weaver for his second appearance in the city. He so impressed organizers that Chu was then asked to play the 14,000 plus crowd at the annual Dose Freakin Halloween event later that year, and as since become a mainstay for Toronto's largest party companies, like Metro Productions (Kickit and Out of Hand), Lifeforce Industries (Dose, Syrous and Renegades), Empire, and Liquid Adrenaline. As of late Big League Chu has found himself working on tracks again in the studio so keep your ears to the ground on upcoming new beats.
