I have seen many people get roasted on here for buying equipment that is way out of their league, so I figured I would ask. I am looking to purchase my first setup, I have a little experience with djing, but not much. I am looking for basic equipment to get me started. Any help would be appreciated. |

depends on what you're wanting to do
vinyl, cds, dvs? |

it really depends.
i come from the school of you are better off buying gear that has resale value (and is just plain better to learn on) than buying berhinger crap.
even if you buy gear the music by itself will set you back a ton, and if not you:p
also you need to elaborate quite a bit:) |

This is what I am really not sure on. Is any one easier than the other to learn on? I'm not really in a certain price range, just want something nice that is fairly easy to learn on. |

well what are you wanting to do? music styles and a price range will help matters
the best bet is to go the route of a DVS paired with tech 12s and a good mixer, that way you get the digital tunes with the analog feel of the control records
i always recommend djs that are starting out to learn on vinyl |

i got big pants |
get numark's idj2...it is the future of djing.
Even people on the level of Armin, Tiesto, etc have recently dumped traditional methods of djing realizing that the idj2 is a step above the rest in terms of sound quality and build. |

Music style would be playing edm, I dont plan on doing much scratching and for price range I dont want to spend a ton of money, but I am not opposed to it if I would have to. Also, with dvs, I see a lot of posts about Traktor, is that recommend over Serato? |

LOL, EDM is pretty broad. Trance, House, Techno, are all very different and are mixed differently :p
I don't know much about Serato, as I've never used it. I have been using Traktor for a few years now and I love it. It's pretty sleek, and I love the interface. I will (hopefully) be upgrading to Traktor Scratch w/ Tech 12's this Christmas. :) |

I would be mainly doing House with a little bit of techno. |

I'd say go for Traktor Scratch/Serato Scratch with a couple of Tech 12's ;) |

That seems to be the general consensus....thanks guys. |

Demoted |
I'm getting some tech 12's in the very near future. And a dvs (probably Traktor Scratch duo) for Christmas.
Do this.
As far as the mixer is concerned, vestax and numark make solid entry mixers. |
