I just got an audio interface, an M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro... works fine with my DAW... but I can't figure out how to get it to work as my laptop's default sound device.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance. |

I'm going to assume that you are using Windows, as you did not specify what operating system you were using. If that is indeed the case, you need to set the M-AUDIO device as your default audio device in the Sound & Audio Devices in Control Panel. |

Yeah, I'm using Windows Vista, sorry for not specifying.
I just set it as the default device, it's called "S/PDIF" and then has "Fast Track Pro" under it. When I play music, or sound on my laptop, it does indeed show that sound is being played... but I am not hearing anything. |

You'll need to set it to the proper output. S/PDIF is a digital output, so unless you are using that then you'll need to set it to one of the analog outputs. |

Choose Fast Track Pro. |

I was too vague apparently, Fast Track Pro was a sub-heading of S/PDIF, same icon. The only other option is Line 1/2 with the same sub-heading.
I made myself sound retarded, yes.
The Line 1/2 does not work either. |

Do you actually have speakers plugged into outputs on the Fast Track Pro? Which outputs? |

Headphones plugged into the headphone jack, I figured it out now... not really sure how I figured it out, but I did... either way, thanks a lot for your help :) |
