So this wasnt a commisioned remix? Either way it brings more attention to the original mix, regardless of the subjective quality. And that is good for the original artist. If the same people who played the original are playing the remix, same thing applies, its good for the original artist. So you guys are mad because your pride was taken away by someone remixing a track you hold dear. You guys dont own the music, other people do, and the people who do own the music likely dont see a problem with someone finding parts and remixing the track. It stands that some of you still dont know the basics of why a remix is done, at a business level and a pratical level. I'm guessing from your own greedy natures you think that every artist wants to capitilize on a classic, without thinking maybe the classic inspires them heavily in a way to want to remix it, which would be likely the case if I were to remix a "classic." So you in advance when I do remix a classic that inspires me, and people like you complain. |
Wow a very heated debate and what this man here has said i agree.Nick put the remix together because he wanted to play it himself. He posted it up on another msg board and it got a really good response.
I then took the track and mailed it to our mailing list.A lot of them liked it.Not just that short list of names i gave earlier.Sure the remixer if its good gets his name out there and of course the original gets brought to the attention again. No harm in that i say.
But i have enjoyed all the comments here about this.Good or bad. |

I dont see the deal with all the classic remixes complains, if you dont like it dont listen to it, simple as that. |
I had to listen to it to hear what it sounds like, so it's a bit late for that. You also realise that if this track is being given away for free and big name DJs are playing it, there's a good chance we'll hear it whether we want to or not?
And some people in this thread are making some clueless arguments. "Brings more attention to the original"? The original Dark Train is featured on:
1. The soundtrack to one of the most classic films of the 90s.
2. One of the most classic mixed compilations of the 90s.
3. Every single "Best trance compilation" that's been released since the 90s.
And then, if this track honestly needs any more exposure, then play the ing original. The reason I'm pissed off has nothing to do with pride (?) and everything to do with lazy **** job DJs who can't play something more than 18 months old unless it has a trendwhore remix. As someone who is a massive fan of older dance music I want DJs to mix more of it alongside newer material. I want variety of sound, of age, of genre. I want DJs to take some ing risks and not bury years of classic music under the sands of disposable fads. And whilever this kind of remix is being made, DJs are only going to get more and more pathetic in their attitude towards old music. |

| Point taken but i think your fighting a losing battle.ive played the original since the day it came out.people will do what they want at the end of the day and if we like it or not will be neither here nor there. |

I don't expect to stop people making ty update remixes, but I would be a hypocrite and a traitor to myself if I just sat by and accepted it.
Oh, and it's bloody Underworld. Underworld. One of the biggest electronic acts of the 90s! I bet they're really grateful that Nick Robson is out there to give them the exposure they badly need. |

Unless it is a legal dispute over whether or not a commercial release has been properly sampled/credited/feed, the people who own the rights to Dark Train (presumably Underworld, I may be mistaken) have no say in whether or not some hack cuts up one of their tracks and makes it into a ty version of their own for their own self serving needs. I'm sure Underworld weren't thinking, "Oh yeah, that Nick Robson, he's a real up and comer. It's okay that he's done a job on a classic." If anything, likely the opposite. It would probably be something along the lines of "What a pile of toss, who is this shamelessly self-promoting son of a bitch?!"
We understand the basics of why a remix is done, both in a business and practical sense. It was practical for this guy to make a cookie cutter remix and attach his name onto a world-known electronic act to start a bit of a stir and get some more hits on Beatport. Pretty simple, really. |

Thanks for the thread at least.
After downloading that e freebie, I headed to Beatport to check if they had the original. I didn't realize it was available there to download!
btw - the remix doesn't work because it removes or lessens the impact of the layers of the track (for me). |
