Review: Dubfire @ Mansion 7/4

Incredible night at Mansion as Dubfire absolutely toyed with my brain.

Walked in around 12:45 and Matthias Tanzmann already had the crowd in quite the frenzy. Before I could even get to the bar he dropped 'Santos- Hold Home' and looped the out of it over some other tribal track while cutting and bringing back the bass like an absolute menace. Was impressed with him and his style.

Around 1:00 the red laptop came out and I knew we were in for a nice, long extended set from Ali. Dubfire came out around 1:45 and set the tone with some minimal building tracks before getting into a solid tech groove with sick rolling basslines and seemless transitions. I've said it before and I'll say it again, for my money the guy is the best in the business- he was relentless.

He dropped his new tune 'Driver' which sounds like something out of an 80's horror movie...twisted. Other tracks he dropped that sent the crowd into a frenzy were:

-Mescal Kid (Steve Angello)- Do You Want It (Unreleased Sci-Tec track) HUGE

-Electric Rescue- The Darkest Star (Peak time tech track)

-Bodyscrub- Low Frequencies

-Think I heard 'Joseph Capriati- Kontrol Room'

-Grindhouse (still gets the sickest crown reaction- people act the fool when this is played)

He has a tendency to play a ton of unreleased stuff from overseas, and there was certainly plenty of Italian Techno in the show last night. I'm sure he's added quite a few tracks from his time in Europe this summer. The last hour and a half was a complete mind. Dude had our crew dancing around like Jim Morrison on peyote. And for the haters.... yes, chicks DO dig Techno!

All in all, a great freaking night. I'll post a couple vids later, and for those of you who went feel free to add an IDs.

I really liked Tanzmann's set. I felt that Dubfire took it up like 15 BPM's as soon as he came on and it was non-stop from there. I was hoping he would've picked up where Tanzmann left off and maybe build a bit more , but no right from the get go it was bangin'.

Santos - Hold Home got a sick ass reaction.

Kinda gotta disagree with ya a little bit there. He came out and dropped a big intro then settled into a minimal groove for a good 20-30 minutes and just let it build from there. Agree with you on how bangin' he was though. Unlike a lot of DJs that are bringin' it some nights and completely boring on others, Ali never disappoints and always brings his A game. Dude bangs it out relentlessly.

I liked the set alot & felt it progressed well. Yet IMO last time @ Mansion he was a little better. This set was definitely dark with mind-twisting minimal tech & some good straight bangin techno beats as well. I only wish they would give him an extended set, maybe an all-night (7 hour) thing like Mansion has done with Tiesto and Roger Sanchez b4. Because the longer Dubfire plays the better the set gets IMO

I would agree with this in the sense that it seemed like Ali really got going and truly started to destroy around 4 and at 5 it did not appear that he wanted to stop, a marathon would have been great.

I hadn't been to Mansion since WMC '07 for Sasha/Diggers and thought the show was good but remembering that the sound sucked. Maybe it was just that we were hanging near the speakers this time but I thought it sounded a lot better...anyone know of changes?

All in all, Ali never lets me down. Dark, haunting, oppressive, looping dubs...my mind was fvcked. It was worth the trip.

Not huge fan BUT you inspired me to give him another whirl.I'd love to see those vids and thanx for the spots always nice to hear the inner workings of a sick night. I wish I could check him out before Lollapalooza 09 but I'm sure the live set in Ft. L will make up for it.:eyespop:
