My friends and I were celebrating a birthday and Malia hooked us up with the Circus bday package. Thanks Malia!

Well, it was interesting. I'm not used to seeing people in costumes (some costumes were quite revealing) at a club, giving the night sort of a rave-ish vibe. Lots of men in drag. Someone was dressed in a complete WWII German officer uniform.

The main room played trance/house and the other rooms played industrial. My friends and I took a quick tour of the other rooms and quickly left. To each their own, I guess.

Hendo did a great job keeping the energy up in the main room, but the other djs were not my cup of tea (boooo house, yeeeeah trance). In the past, if we didn't like the music in the main room we would go to the side room. Unfortunately that wasn't an option tonight.

I'm soooo looking forward to August 1st for Andy Moor and Norin & Rad. The August lineup at Circus is awesome.

Check out this info I found posted on Myspace:

NO OUTSIDE CAMERAS. absolutely no photography or video captures without photo pass. this includes cell phone cameras. if found using a camera, you will be ejected from the club without refund.

Bummer on the no camera policy, but it won't apply to me. :tongue2

So I thought the no cam policy was to protect the privacy of those into BDSM in the side room, but then I see like 10 people walking around with huge digital SLR cameras taking pictures of pretty much EVERYTHING! :wtf:

They should have just said "no cams under 50 megapixels" allowed...I saw plenty of people with small digital cams though anyway...I guess you can see the pics here:

Going beyond the dominatrix whipping a guy on his knees wearing a studded black leather collar, a tall guy with a large, sharp knife cutting into the shoulder of a guy laying face down (fresh antiseptic wipes to remove the blood, of course) and an electric "globe filled with blue lightning" on a wand that shocked women clad in leather while laying down, the most bizarre part to me was a video displayed in all of the rooms (including the main one where house music was playing), that showed a picture of Hitler split-screen with a picture of Obama.

I know Obama is expected to save the world and everything, but that seemed a bit of a stretch and detracted somewhat from the vibe in the main room. Yeah, free speech and everything, but seems that video would have been better playing in the industrial rooms rather than repeatedly flashing to the left and right of the DJ on the main stage.

Was funny watching some people dancing at 150bpm to music that was actually probably around 126bpm during the House set in the main room...I guess they said F*** it and "made their own Trance"...lol.

I agree that Trance/Progressive/Techno, something more upbeat, should be playing in at least one of the rooms on Saturday nights. House has pretty much taken over most other clubs in LA, so people could easily go almost anyplace else to hear it... I think Hendo & Josh's sets pretty much saved the night for a lot of people, though to be fair, there were some who were was really into D-Formation's music...I liked about every 10th song...

Was glad that I went though...people made some major investments in those costumes, from head-to-toe rubber, huge 18th century dresses, black boots that had buckles all the way up to the knees, elaborate and very authentic looking uniforms, etc. A lot of those people were dancing to Trance during Hendo's set in the main room instead of being over in the industrial rooms, so there was definitely a carnival atmosphere!
