This thread was inspired by the plug-in census thread on Gearslutz. Basically the idea is this: I give a list of functions (reverb, delay, subtractive synthesis, etc.) and you name your favorite software plug-in for that function. Of course, which plug-in you use will depend on what sound you want -- duh -- but just imagine which one you would keep if you were somehow forced to use only one reverb, delay unit, software compressor, or whatever. Like the person who started the Gearslutz thread, I'll keep a running tally of people's choices for each function.

Ive used the Waves collection and several other FX for each catagory, most of the time the difference was negelable and I knew how to handle the ones I had more, so I just stuck with the default on alot of these. You should add chorus, falnger, phaser and gate. :P
Edit: Fixed subtractive catagory. Z3ta isn't subtractive, not sure synth1 is either. |

I'm trying to be much more consistent with my plugins... like how a good *real* studio likes to buy a $100k mixing desk and use it for as long as the studio is open... leads to a good and consistent sound.
In the order requested:
UAD Harrison 32C
UAD 4K Buss Compressor
UAD Precision Limiter
UAD Plate 140
UAD Cooper Time Cube mkII
If I had to have only one, it would be the NL3. But I would be sad. :(
Don't use FM synths ... but wouldn't mind a Yamaha TG77 for classic 80s FM
Only "other" synth I have is the Waldorf XT. It's pretty cool but I haven't gone deep into it yet
Don't use a sampler... except for maybe Guru on occasion. But I don't like to mix-down a final using its beat-matching algorithms. they aren't very accurate
Waiting for UAD Fatso... but I resort to over-driving the UAD Moog Filter for distortion (which I don't use much of, anyway)
...yeah, I pretty much use exclusively UAD for everything non-synth |
