I moved here to Vance AFB in January as the Wing Weather Officer; and i'm a 1st LT. My Flight Commander, a Captain, was going to be moving sometime this year; and for awhile, we were not sure if I was going to take his place as the Flight Commander, or if someone else would come in.

Well, before he moves on, our Squadron Commander bumped him up to a higher position in the Squadron, and they moved me to the Flight Commander. I figured this was going to be a permanent move/position for me.

Well, low and behold, we've come to find out there's another Capt who is coming in and he's going to officially take over as Flight Commander in November.

So i'm basically getting this command position, then having it taken away from me. I'm an "Acting" Flight Commander as they told me. Which is kind of bogus, in my opinion, as I will be pinning on Captain next June anyway.

Sucks that I get my own flight; only to have it taken away from me :(

Anyone else get a "promotion" only to have it taken away later on?

I guess the equivelent would be like you work at McDonald's, and you're the lettuce chopper....but the burger flipper is leaving, so they let you move up to the burgers...only to later on have someone else come and immediately burger flip; leaving you to go back to tossing salads.

well i (a SrA)was the Go to guy for maintenance in SATCOM @ buckley, i felt good about where i was, we where getting bunch of new booty airman strait from tech-school. i was looking forward to training them better than the last group of new airmen. a day b4 they got here i was moved to QA for 18 to 30 months. im not digging it.

sorry to break the bad news to you Will, but they didn't want to tell you that you have been outsourced. The Captain and the future Flight Commander are both Indian, and are willing to work for cheaper wages. :(

On the civilian side, the concern is not so much about someone taking over your job but rather about whether or not you have a job at all.

Since its the Military...just suck it up with a smile.

At least they gave you a heads up instead of pulling the rug at the last minute.

And after you keep the job, its taking over the responsibilities of all your co-workers that were let go...oh and no pay increase ktnx :)

but I cannot relate, I just got promoted, got a sizable increase, and no one will take over my spot!@

Lol, I experienced the same thing! But I still feel extremely empathetic and even harbor a sense of guilt. Its tough not to.

Haha, kinda stinks, try worst thing ever! The military so far has proven to be both the best, most satisfying experience of my life as well as the most trying and frustrating thing I've ever encountered. Keep on keeping on, it's gotta get better, right?
