Question About Looking For Studio Space

I am looking at getting an actual studio set up in the next few months, and am curious as to what I should be looking for. I don't want to have to worry about noise levels and the such.

Should I be looking at commercial office space or am I looking in the wrong direction?

Anything else I should know or look for? Any questions I should be asking?

Thanks.

You can really set one up anywhere as long as you are not disturbing the peace. I've always wished I had an old home on a big acre lot that had an underground basement you hide in for tornadoes. I'd turn that mofo into the biggest baddest studio ever.

Commercial space is fine, but again you still gotta keep the peace. I wouldn't focus too much on zoning restrictions unless you're planning to have a lot of in-person and walk up customers and need to be in an easily accessible place.

I don't know what city your in and if you're looking for a bargain, but you can probably (especially in this economy) find some nice space for a good price if you're ok with having a very poor positioned studio (only a back alley entrance, no advertising available, no front windows, etc.)

You might even be able to find some space that was previously used for studio purposes and get lucky on the configuration of it all. How sweet would it be to walk in and see that big piece of glass for vocal recording :eyespop:

Just curious.... what is prohibiting you from doing this at home?

Neighbors. I live in suburbia. So turning things up unfortunately is an issue. I don't need to turn a studio into a night club per say but I'd like to actually be able to reap the benefits of all the equipment I have purchased. I also just don't want to have to worry about it being too loud or the fact it's 3 am or things of that nature.
