Weird audio input to FL problem

When I run my Virus B audio into FL it doesn't need a mixer track to be 'armed' to receive and play the audio. For example if set up the midi out plugin but don't select the soundcard audio input to a mixer channel I still get a sound from the Virus if I press the midi out's keys or play my midi controller. If I turn the master out volume of FL down and the FL mixer master volume down it does not change the volume of the Virus B audio input. The only thing that changes the volume of the Virus B audio in via FL is the midi out volume knob. Its like the audio going into the PC isn't being routed to FL's mixer.

I had a hard drive crash recently and re-installed FL and all the other software. Prior to this crash the problem wasn't happening. The only changes I have made to the setup since the crash are:
- New drivers for my soundcard. An M-Audio Audiophile 2496.
- Virus B is now going into the soundcard through my hardware mixer, before the crash it was going directly into the soundcard - but I can't see why this would change anything. Its still an analog input.

Sounds like your soundcard is monitoring the audio input itself. This is a feature, but obviously not desirable for you now. You need to turn this off in your driver software, consult the manual for it if you don't know how.

Some software, like Cubase, can turn hardware monitoring on and off itself, the advantage of this is virtually no latency, as opposed to going through the software mixer will introduce a lot of latency between the instrument and your speakers.

By the way, I must warn you that you're going to have a really hard time using FL Studio with hardware synthesisers. FL Studio has no automatic delay compensation and hardware snyths have their own latency. This will make it hard to sync tracks up in the sequencers, often making you think things sound terrible when they're really just out of sync. Trying to get track delays right in FL Studio is an absolute nightmare.

+1

Complex melodies are still a no go , because of this.

Thought it would be a soundcard issue. I tried playing with the monitoring source but it made no difference, manual and tech support time I think.

I agree with both of you about the delay / latency. Prior to the HD crash I was using the Virus easily by altering the midi note positioning to account for the latency. Made some reasonably complex riffs this way - still annoying though.

Cheers;)
