PVD - Today [DJMaytag's Dreamy Dub Mix]
"Today" is one of my favorite PVD tracks ever, a really obscure one at that! I tried to spruce it up for the floors yet retaining the feel and mood of the original, since it's a meaningful track in PVD's eyes:
| quote: | "[Today] is one section of a sort of trilogy called 'Looking For Me',", says the fiery eyed Paul Van Dyk. "It's a track in three phases, based on the way my feelings changed while a girlfriend of mine was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis."
"The first bit is about when I first heard about her illness, so that's really sad. The second, which is the bit on your CD, is called 'The Dream'. It came about when I was in New York soon afterwards. A lot of the time I was on my own, just thinking about her the whole time."
"At night, I was looking out of the window a lot, watching the stars and thinking - about my friend, about life in general, what can happen to you and how you just have to deal with it. So it's very dreamy and quite slow - only 126 BPM." |
This is from the booklet that came with the CD I bought eons ago (1994), Trance Europe Express 2. Not sure if it was supposed to be called "The Dream" or Today, but that's what's listed on the tracklisting. Also kinda funny to see 126 BPM listed as quite slow, as 145-160 was the norm for most trance back then..
Not to piss all over the original intent and meaning behind the original, I kept it as dreamy as possible, making it nice and trippy. As always with me, there's a nice little tweaky acid synthline (in the background) and a ripping 303 bassline to keep it grooving.
Full length 320kbps version available on request via PM soon! |

Enjoying your version, it's great! Loving those groovy tweaks.
Oh the days when PvD was still good....
As for the titling of Today.. if i remember correctly, Today was initially planned to be released as a single with a bunch of his own different versions of the track just like he did with most of his other singles at the time. In the end it never got its own single but a few versions got spread out on other PvD releases; the original version on the Pump This Party EP and the Dream version first on the TEE2 compilation and later on reissued on some PvD compilations and special editions of his Seven Ways album, only then retitled as Trance Ambient Mix. |

| thats a pretty cool track, one that makes me want to lean back and blow some bubbles =) i really like the shininess of the song too. it also has a certain sound to it that reminds me of innocence and fun, sorta like Paul Oakenfold - Starry Eyed Surprise, even though the context of the original song was the complete opposite. |

| I thought the track was pretty cool as well. One thing that I think would benefit is upping the volume of the drums, however. Otherwise, excellent! |
