Learning Dutch... (pg. 2)

In my opinion it is almost impossible to learn a language by reading a selection of words/phrases. You need to get a grip on the grammar and pronouncuation of certain syllables.

Take a look at this site:
http://travlang.com/languages/

It was pretty helpful when I started teaching myself Swedish.

ali: dj_siesta has no valuable lessons to teach you..ignore him :)

I know... Anyway, Great phrases everyone! Make sure you put more BASIC phrases in there too! Just put those others (like about the Trance party, UK TA, condoms, etc.) at the end. If I'm going there for the 1st time, I'm going to try to speak basic conversations with the Dutch people and if they know English, I'll continue the conversation from there IN English (simple English, though)! Keep'em coming! Thanks!

I was there before. It's nice... I want to get a CD-ROM or warez that has an environment that "puts you into the langauge of your choice's environment". That's the most helpful because it's like going over there when you're a kid and bi-lingal speakers might say "That's a ("car" but, in the native language)"...

Here's another one.. I don't know if you have a DVD player, and neither if region code 1 (US) DVD's include Dutch subtitles but watching movies is a very good way of learning certain words in daily behaviour. I am unsure though if Dutch subtitles are only included on region code 2 DVD's or also on region code 1.

Listening to webradio is also an option, but you can only do that once you've advanced to the point where you are able to understand the foreign language in it's natural pronouncuation.

still the best way is to take some kind of foreign class here.. my sister did the same in spain and she can speak and understand spanish quite well (at least that's what she says :)

zker waar maar zijn muziek vind ik ook mooi. komt als je 4 weken lang radio mexico hoort, dan begin je die gewoon mooi te vinden. (voor de onbekende: radio mexico is een zend piraat in den bosch en omstreken die 24/7 nederlandse volsmuziek uitzendt, fransje, andre hazes, marianne weber, corrie konings, JAN smit enz enz. eerst vond ik het ook niks maar na 2 weken continu die zender verplicht hebben moeten aanhoren begon ik het mooi te vinden)
