sadly this is one of those things but had it not been crown land I would have never done the same thing on private property. Likewise I wouldn't have done it in an urban area most likely where there was an established metro police force.

In the middle of the woods it just feels like anything still out here would never be found again plus it was probablty 3+ years since anyone had been there. Although it does have me question it now.. should I report it to the opp, it was with a bunch of rotting junk clearly abandoned. And there was some ID on site (an old calling card.. hmm I guess maybe I should follow up on it.

But it frankly felt like mine....

this a bit goes back to english common law and finders law.

none the less the mint or state could maybe lay claim as a previous owner originator I suppose but this is something I am likely to look more closely into...

(I didn't keep the calling card so would have to go back to the site and look for it again, and the bugs swarm out there. (I think the card was from 96 or 97

dude thats indept .

honestly you can't give it back to the owner because no way for someone to identify it so you keep it. if i could find the owner i would give it back because that has got to suck!

It depends because sometimes you see the person who dropped it, in which case you should give it back

If not then just use it

one time i was at a bank machine and the lady infront of me left $80 in the machine and left.

i waited a good 30 seconds for her to come back, then i took it and bought everyone a round.

There are finders laws in some places - but in the absence of finders laws report it to police - chances are they will keep it. If someone reports that they lost it then they can pick it up.

see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost,_...ndoned_property

Usually there is a set timeframe people have to lay claim to something.

this is why it works to claim in divine right everything and work from there.

The reason to report it to police is that in most cases the absence of finders laws means that it is owned by the state.

Although a specific jurisdiction may allow or disallow certain uses of public property. This can vary on a conventions basis or writ.

bear in mind all US currency is property of the federal reserve, and as weird as it may seem be reclaimed.. total bs anywho.

nope. if you find money and hand it to police and nobody claims it you get the money. ffs, that's even in that link you provided.
