NOTE to all my Facebook Friends: Facebook has agreed to let a 3rd party advertiser use your posted pictures without your permission. To prevent this: Mouse over SETTINGS (top right side of page). Select PRIVACY SETTINGS. Select NEWS FEEDS AND WALL. Select the tab that reads FACEBOOK ADS. In drop down box select NO ONE. Save your changes. Please copy/paste this and post on your status for your friends.

Facebook Ads make advertisements more interesting and more tailored to you and your friends. These respect all privacy rules. You may opt out of appearing in your friends' Facebook Ads below."

| Lol, I'm always amazed that more people don't have their privacy settings higher. That people wouldn't already have set up this way is just baffling. |

| My settings is set at the highest for lurkers, but Facebook ADs ... caught me right off gaurd. |

Yeah mon, no matter what you do ... you can't delete your emails. Sent to trash, its goes into all mail ... remove from all mails, back to inbox. Thats the main thing I hate about GMail. |

They also scan your email, and post relevant ads on the side based the subject I believe. We tested this out and its pretty crazy.

You're kind of focusing on the least important issue here. This isn't about contextual ads, those have been around forever, it's the fact that they are using members' pictures in the ads.
This is something a publisher or advertiser would normally have to obtain explicit consent for, but when you agreed to the TOS for Facebook, you agreed to a section saying, effectively, that anything you upload to their servers becomes their property. You have no intellectual property rights to anything you put up on Facebook; be happy that they actually gave you the ability to opt out of this. |

they haven't just done this, i have been seeing all your ugly mugs in ads on facebook since i joined.
they offer you a free website to store billions of your craptastic photos and you complain that they try to use some of your photos for some ads to recoup the cost of running facebook so you can spam me with 6 million events a day? |
