Drug Testing (pg. 3)

A lot of times, it depends on the job.

If it's a government job, a very hands-on job, or a job that requires a lot of physical activity/manual labor, then a hair test is far more likely than a desk job or something of that nature.

Most companies just do a piss test because it's the minimum, and the government says they have to have it for their employees. Hair tests are more expensive and time-consuming.

maybe it is not the same in canada i guess.

i know that if we are going to entrust employees with contracts involving very significant sums of money and the reputation of the firm, we like to make sure that we don't hire crackheads.

As far as I know, hair tests are pretty rare in the states.

My buddy got Hair Tested when he applied for a job at Heaven Hill (horrible, I know), but managed to pass after a month of not smoking. Not sure why they Hair Tested at Heaven Hill, it was just a lab job.

I found that information from a website that has personally updated information from people who were subjected to tests at particular companies. It's an online database of 'what companies test and what tests they use'.

Also, since I am technically employed by a third-party staffing company, and they claim to have 100% 'on-site staffing services', I made a guesstimated assumption that the information I found on the database was right.

Even if it does unfortunately happen to be a hair test, I am planning on shaving my head (the way I grow my hair anyway) on the 22nd, giving them barely enough to test even if they gathered samples anyway. As for the whole 'they could collect body hair' thing, well, im not hairy AT ALL, and no, I will not subject my pubes to test tube analysis.

Either way, I'm going to test myself next week, to see whats up. I did the math earlier, and besides my one bowl excursion on May 18th, I hadn't smoked since April 9th. Not counting the shwag mexiweed, I will have been clean 137 days come Aug 24th.

You know, it's really ing pathetic how much trouble they put people through over this kind of . What I do with my body is my own problem. If it's not on company time then piss off. I'm listening to Bill Hicks right now, ironically, and thought of how funny it is that the people so against drug use tend to be the people who think God is flawless: ultra-conservatives. Thinking about those people pisses me off something fierce.

how is it pathetic?

if you are not a drug user it is not a problem.

It is kind of sad that they don't have the ability to discriminate between those who just like to party with illegal substances once in a while and the total crackheads whose drug use will detract from their ability to work.

:p

You will be clean either way, you don't need to shave your head if you don't want to.

137 days? :stongue: You're definitely golden.

They (conservatives) set the standard in place, and seem to think that weed either turns you into a Reefer Madness-esque lunatic or a no-good deadbeat bum that isn't productive to society at all. If only they could get some sort of reality check. I wish we could just *try* to legalize it, and if it fails, and society becomes a bunch of idiots, then we can go back to the War on Drugs thing where cops are busting teenagers getting high in parking lots instead of busting crackheads/meth dealers in various parts of the city.

Are you telling me that I can't be a productive worker in the office place, come home, smoke a joint or two, and carry on with my life?

It's one thing to show up to work high, or even smoke while at work (I've known people that have done that). I'm talking about completely personal . The fact that they go to such extreme measures to violate 1) my privacy, 2) bill of rights, for under the pretense of 'we want to ensure the safety of our employees, respect for our company, and/or acknowledge the law, is completely asinine. Spend that money developing your market share, your company image, employee bouses, ect.

When it comes to harder drugs, I can see where the trouble lies in employee productivity, but I'm simply talking about good ol' Marry Jane. To beat a dead horse, she never hurt anyone, and shes technically much healthier than Jack, Jim, and Phillip(Morris).

In the meantime, I can't sit here challenging the system as much as I want to (although being active in keeping current when it comes to legislative reform opportunities is helpful). If you want to work, then you have to oblige, not to mention unemployment in the U.S still sucks a fatty.

2 of my good friends are "wake n bakers" and go to work stoned every day. they both own their own companies and have nice homes & cars too lol

not everyone is the same on pot.

lenazi
the thing is right or not smoking pot is illegal.

it is no different then a company doing a background check on perspective employees.

Where do they draw the line between recreational use and abuse then? They really can't. At the end of the day the employer is allowed to choose whatever candidate they want for whatever reason (even beyond the drug test). You are the one who needs to conform to their way if YOU WANT the job, and not the other way around. Live with it.

Agreed. I'm just saying if we stand any chance of legalization/equalization it's gotta be compared to alcohol, and well, we can't really get drunk at work. 'Na Meen?
