"Lentz said knowing who one was dealing with was increasingly important because of the internet. So much economic and social activity was net-based that it had become a crucial issue. "We have to reduce the amount of anonymity on the net," he said.

He said there were legitimate reasons for people to be private and to have private conversations. Better identity systems could help ensure that privacy."

Isn't that last statement contradicting itself? This all sounds horrible to me and just another step towards giving up our freedom.

internet2 is bad news for free people everywhere.

Do you really want your WWW to become the equivalent of cable, where you pay more to get access to certain websites?

Where every bit of data goes through government filters?

Where every piece of information is legislated against and controlled?

But even if they succeed with this asinine plan, freedom, is like a weed and never goes away.

Concepts like this will become the free future of the internet.

It says nothing about censored, just that everyone who posts something online, or visits a secure website is able to be traced, so should someone commit a crime or abet one their identity will be known, managed by secure government systems that cooperate with ISP's - in a more easily tracable method which will not allow spoofing or use of zombies.
