Being a dirty immigrant to this country (came here from the USSR when I was 7) I think I can speak with a certain amount of authority when I say "what the is it with immigrants that refuse to embrace the local culture?"

I'd like to know if I am alone.

So has anyone else here (particularly other fellow dirty immigrants or people with non-anglo ethnic backgrounds) felt frustrated by immigrants who maintain a sense of national duty to the country they left, complain constantly about Australia's shortcomings compared to their old homeland and/or consistently behave in a way that is not generally acceptable in this country (though it was acceptable in theirs) and yet strangely never take the opportunity to leave and go back?

at least they had the decency to target a military asset though. that's ing rare when it comes to these pieces of . in that sense, their stay here couldn't have been ALL bad, because they didnt choose a shopping centre instead.

Yeah not bad we were quite well off which was a double edged sword in a funny way, but I never really wanted for anything. My memories are pretty happy lots of snow and fun stuff. I do remember getting pneumonia and being in a Soviet hospital.. that was pretty . But my father has regaled me with stories of the old country all my life and instilled a healthy loathing of authority, and general cynicism about human nature in me :)

My family has been here a long, long time and I get called a racist every time I make comments like what you've written above.

I'm an extremely welcoming person when it comes to race and religion. I think Muslim women should be allowed to wear head to toe dress if that's what makes them happy; just don't call 'Australian' women filthy whores because they don't want to dress like that. Accept the culture you've adopted.

Yeah.. I can only sometimes get away with it because I'm an immigrant. Problem is I don't look very ethnic - whiter than most Aussies so if I'm talking to people I don't know I have to explicitly mention that I wasn't born here.
