Yeah they would have happened just fine. I'm just saying it would have cost you more money as a tax payer if the city were forced to pay private contractors like they did for pride.
For the record I don't think they should pay any overtime pay for this either. However, I gaurantee you'd be more peeved at Miller for allowing a strike to last a few extra days when they were so close to settling. It comes down to dollars and cents I'm simply rasing the point that paying overtime prolly worked out to be cheaper than beening forced to hire private contractors. Either way ppl (you)would be complaining so yes its a no win situation. |

I dont believe it would have cost more to use contractors exclusively for caribana vis a vis a full scale clean up at time and a half for the whole city.
Contractors contracted last minute for an entire city clean up may be a different story.
BTW contractors over a long term deal would save the city 100s of millions just like in etobicoke. It should be a major election issue IMO |

BTW - $50 rebate cheque for services lost during the strike?! WTF is that?! Kids couldn't use parks, garbage didn't get picked up, organized sports which people paid for couldn't happen and the qualify that the acceptable rebate/refund is a measly $50! |

I don't like Miller anymore than you do... nor do I like half or more of the entire council... however I find it moronic that people would say we should let the city suffer this nastyness longer just for the purpose of punishing the union.

| i dunno about the rest of you in toronto but this week, no garbage was picked up on garbage day on the street i live....so their overtime BS. |

With 1/10th the population and nightly removal of garbage from the transfer stations, Windsor dealt with nothing close to what we did here. |

you know we in toronto keep saying "how much we dealt with" in terms of the whole garbage issue...but its only select areas that actually felt it....ie. the ones close to the dump sites. i'm not supporting the strike but a few more days with them dealing with it on a regular work week would've been fine. |
