Pro-nuclear vs. No-Nukes

My theory.

Nuclear weapons have kept a majority of the worlds major powers at relative peace for 60 years and nuclear energy will save humanity.

Hippies go home.

Except when s like North Korea do missile tests dangerously close to humanity. Our Nuclear weapons will remain disarmed unless we face a serious threat to our country. I'm not talking 9/11, I'm talking someone else wants to nuke us first lol.

If you want clean energy with the smallest most efficient footprint possible with technology available YESTERDAY, nuclear is your answer. People shouldn't be afraid anymore

You can't deny its dangers, however. Just because it's very clean and efficient doesn't mean that it can't be very dangerous in the wrong hands. What would it take for a country to launch nuclear war on another?

Sorry to inform you but the US at anyone time has almost 1000 ICBMs, with many thousands more warheads on them, cocked, locked and ready to rock at a moments notice.

Yes including. There are about 375 Trident II SLBM deployed on our Ohio class boats.

Each one of those has 24 missiles, each missile has 8 warheads (at last count). Thats 192 warheads a boat.

The US maintains 450 Minuteman III ICBM in the upper mid-west. Each of those has 2 or 3 warheads (depending on the reduction levels in place at each wing).

All of those can be on their way in less than an hours notice, and all hitting targets in 10-30 minutes after launch.

Yes, we have like 2700 armed nuclear weapons, but we have no intent on using them.

The only reason the superpowers of today aren't invading countries and building global empires like they were for the previous two thousand years is because of nuclear weapons. They forced humanity to collectively grow up and think about what we are doing.

We have every intent on using them if need be.

Thats the point of deterrence. I have no doubt in my mind that given the right situation the POTUSA, including Obama, would authorize strategic nuclear release.

I hope that day never, ever arrives but I do sleep a little sounder knowing that we have the ability to wipe the entire world off the face of the map if someone else tries to do the same. :p

Russia could do the exact same thing to us at any given moment also. They have more nukes than us, you know. I know the U.S. and Russia are cool right now, but what could push a country over the edge, and launch a full-scale nuclear war? What could possibly cause that?

There's a book my dad read that he was telling me about... written by a former navy sub captain- I can't remember it but I'll ask him later- about how there are even more subs and more nukes than the public even knows about. I wouldn't be surprised if there are all kinds of crazy like that going on that we'd never know about.
