ok i have a msi kt3 ultra mainboard w/ athlon xp1600 256 ddr mem, and a 80 gig maxtor hard drive... the problem is: when i turn on my computer it goes through the scan as normal, then it says "searching for boot record on flopy" then it goes to a all black screen with a blinking cursor on the top left corner of my screen and wont load up my o/s (XP)

thanks in advance!

take the floppy disk out of the drive.

or if there isn't one, then your computer is set to boot from the floppy first, which is kinda dumb.

you will have to go into the bios and change that.

i tried unplugging everything from flopy and it still did same thing.. then i tried to boot first from CD, then hard drive.. and still i get same thing.. is this a problem with my flopy drive, motherboard or harddrive?

have u set the boot order right in the bios ( it tells ur comp where to look for a boot disk first, in mine its harddisk, floppy disk, then network) if thats set right then something could have screwed up on the boot sector on your harddisk, which could have been caused by a number of things

it could be that your jumper on your hd isn't set properly ... if you don't know what you're doing then the best bet would be to take it into any small computer place and tell them your problem and they should have it done within the day and for cheap...

its because Maxtor is the #1 tiest drive you can buy. They crash regularly. I do network admin stuff for a 400 person company and im sworn off them forever. Ask anyone who knows about computers and you cant find a tier drive. Western Digital or Seagate. Your HDs probably F%% mate. cheers

This could be the solution, but suggestions like these are only relevant if DJ A.i has recently installed a harddrive or changed his jumpersettings...which we don't know! So DJ A.i... my question is, since when do you have this problem? Have you changed anything recently? new hardware? Please tell us as much as you can, so we can help you better. :)
