For any TA's that go out to Burning Man, heads up on the Opulent Temple line up this year. It's pretty epic, especially considering all these DJ's play for free and pay their own way to the festival.
Including...
Wednesday: Sharam from Deep Dish, Ali B & Tim Healey
Thursday : Armin Van Buuren & Infected Mushroom doing a live set with their 4 piece band
Friday: Carl Cox, Christopher Lawrence & DJ Dan
Saturday: Meat Katie, Lee Coombs, Elite Force, Dylan Rhymes & Dopamine
Full line up with set time here: http://www.opulenttemple.org
Come say hi, we're at 2:00 & Esplanade. |

Masssive sound, lights, and go-go dancers aren't cheap either. |

| those are sll standard expenses...so if the opel fundraising raised the funds for them, then its $0 cost... guess charity does pay off. |

Opel and Opulent Temple, while being run by the same guy(s), are two separate financial entities. Opel parties are for profit. Opulent Temple fundraisers are not. A big sound camp at BM costs over 50k to throw just from the sound, transportation, and fuel costs (they definitely don't pay gogo's lol). They might pay some machinists to make their structures, but the bulk of the work BY FAR is done for free by volunteers.
I don't really know what you're insinuating, but there have been maybe 3-4 OT fundraisers this past year, the success of which enabled them to actually make a return this year (after last year they were 30k+ in debt). You might argue that the success of OT has helped Opel be more successful, but that's completely fair if you ask me. You can rest assured that Syd isn't lining his pockets with the money he gets from the OT fundraisers, they just help him put less of his own and other camper's money into the event. |

Sadface is 100% correct on all counts.
Thanks for clearing that up.
the rental of a 100k sound system, a 200k watt gennie, hiring a tractor to take up our semi trailer, + the 24 foot truck and flat bed truck we rent, fabrication of the stuff we build like this year like a new VJ booth, art elements for the dance floor, new stage legs to lower the level of the stage platforms, money for the propane we use, visuals related costs, a gift bar we run for our day parties, year round storage, etc are the kinds of costs we raise money for.
And, like most years, we'll likely end in a bit of debt.
It's looking as though it will be well worth it - again... :D |

| i would love to make it out to this otherworldly experience. for those who've gone in the past, how much did the whole trip cost you--or if that question is too vague, how much would it cost someone on a bare minimum budget? |
