If you lost your job?

If you lost your job today and have some savings, would you take the rest of the summer off but submit resumes or would you hit the pavement for another job? My team was let go today and we were taken by surprise. I am kind of burnt out from work and there are a lot of great parties. What would you do with your time?

I'd get me some unemployment and a cash job ;)

Lol, I just filed online and am making calls right now. I want to keep play paper separate from bills so my husband doesn't kill me.

on a more serious note, if you asked me a little time to yourself never hurt anyone

you can most likely get unemployment to help out for a bit. what job lets you have a few weeks off at a time, i'd take a little while and enjoy the time while you have the opportunity to

Eh, I saw the max for unemployment and it doesn't cover anything. We were all let go today and have to meet tomorrow to find out our severance. I think relaxing for a few weeks would be good. I just need to find something besides being online, the gym, and partying to do or at least, some good parties.

Is it wrong to say I love you? This is perfect, I can start right after EZ. I don't think my husband will mind as long as I spend the weekends with him. I'll see every city that has people I know.

it's good to take some "me" time but there will be a point where you want to work or have to work so given the job market you might want to get crackin on looking for stuff after taking a week or so off.

oh and obviously don't start working again until you severence runs out...severance packages ftmfw

Sorry to hear about your team...My thought is that this market is too iffy right now, I would definitely start at least seeing if there is anything out there for u right now. And if you do find a job right away that u may/may not want, then u can always just not take it.

Just a thought since a friend who worked with me was fired and said the same type of thing that he would relax and enjoy 2 months, and now is panicking months later to find anything.

After working the same job for 6 years I was laid off a few months ago. Let me tell you, collecting unemployment for the past few months has been the best vacation I've ever had. I got just enough to pay rent, eat, and party here and there.

However, I've finally reached the point where I'm starting to lose my mind from what I guess is lack of structure, and lack of savings for that matter. So, I've decided it's time for me to start pounding the pavement.

Point is, I agree some "me" time is not just great, it's awesome! But, it can only last for so long. That said, take some time off, but do not procrastinate.

I'm in finance and it isn't easy. I know there are available positions but some I'm over qualified for and others are in different areas. I am at least going to send my resume every day for new openings. I wouldn't take anything longer than EZ weekend if I don't put myself out there. It has hurt and I kind of went girly, cried it out on my husband. I'm happy he is a good guy and will motivate me.

I want to look at other industries because it seems like they want to higher less qualified people so they can pay them less in my area of finance. Thanks.
