Maby you should look into getting a virtual machine. Then the only time you have to use windows is with your audio production. Unelss you are feeling brave and want to use wine/hackintosh. VMs are better than dual boot, because you don't have to reboot to switch the OS. |
Yeah, but native operation > emulation. I wouldn't want to run a virtual machine ALL the time, personally. |

Well, Windows is getting pretty bad, I think people are generally prefering a VM over windows, if they are aware of the option of VMs. Or using a Mac/Nix system with a windows emu.
Its pretty straightforward to set up a VM now a days. And in many cases it saves resources. |

My point being, if you're only keeping around Windows for a few specific tasks, dual-booting might be a better option.
For instance, I use a Macbook Pro at home now, but I have it dual-booting Windows for gaming time. :) |

Lol @ "get a mac"
Ignorance is bliss for some.
@david idk, I hate rebooting. You want to reboot every time you want to play a game? |

Yes, I don't find it to be a big deal. But it only takes a few seconds, really.
I find it better than the alternative of poorer performance, but each person's situation is different of course. I'm not frequently switching between OSes multiple times per day. |

System specs are
AMD athlon 64 x2 Dual core 400+ (2.3ghz ish)
2MG DDR2 ram (thought i had more)
EMU 0404 pci sound
Win XP SP3
I do use wireless so will try to turn that off, also my sound cards UI runs in explorer so I cant shut explorer down i dont think.
Subtle I thought that too so i increased my latency buffer to maximum 100ms (its emu) so not in samples and it didnt help in the slightest.
Its more z3ta than Nexus but just generally running loads higher than it used too.
I must mention that before maybe two weeks ago I could load my pc with several vsts and it would be fine. Its a recent problem.
Could it be upgrading to Win XP service pack 3 i have heard of this happening? |
Is it possible for you to rollback to SP2? |

Its not the OS that takes ahwile, its getting all the systems after the OS running. When I'm not producing, I have many services running, torrents, p2p, messenger services, I have a couple browsers opened doing different things. IRC. Etc..takes about 7-10 minutes to get back to where I was. I pretty much do everything on my PC. [which is why I am sometimes on the forums literally all day long] |

I did roll back to sp2 and it kinda helped my problem
@ the mac guys I use macs all the time instudios and they are notorious for crashing and messing up that stupid little colour wheel is up most of the time in logic for example switching an audio intercface.
My girl has a mac and she is always the same oooh get a mac pcs are bad. Well hers messes up daily and i am always poking fun at her.
For the last time
"macs are stable reliable machines" Is a myth and i am talking form experience
it boils down to mac users get used to macs and end up preferring them im sure of it. |

yes just go add remove programs in control panel and then show updates and remove it.
Beware it messes everything up and u have to reconfig things like msn or media player though |
