| Too repetitive:rolleyes: Some nice sounds later in the track, but, many do not fit. The best part I would say is the breakdown. Everything leading to it, just doesn't sound right to me. Out of key? Wrong Sounds... I don't know. I think the bassline needs to change. Some of the panning is good with the hi-hats but, it lacking a bit, in the mix. Some of the sounds you choose can very well work, but, it seems you just need more practice. No hard feelings- its just my opinion.:) |

| I'd cut it down a little bit, if it's that repetitive no way can it be almost 10 minutes. You have to either sacrifice some length or there needs to be more progression and change in the track. |

that was weird, those vocal samples are crazy. at some parts it sounds like some weird goa and then there's like a trancey element to it and...
it was weird. |

The two most oft-quoted and despised new-producer responses to criticism:
That's the sound I was going for.
No , if it wasn't the sound you wanted then you would have made a different sound. This is the musical equivalent of "it's not a bug, it's a feature!"
It's got a few rough edges, I just need to put on the finishing touches and then it'll be awesome. (Alternate version: It just needs to be mastered.)
I know you put in a lot of effort, but those little finishing touches are about 50% of the total work, for a typical production by an experienced producer. Those of us who actually know what we're talking about do not really appreciate these things being brushed off as spit-polishing.
I don't want to be rude, because I don't see you being defensive per se, but you're also not listening to people, and that is the whole point of posting your track and asking for unbiased feedback. We already know that YOU like your own track! What matters here is how other people are reacting to it.
I'm sorry to say that the track is repetitive, discordant, and generally aimless, and you won't learn anything if you rationalize this by writing it off as "diverse and strange." The track is also muddy and in some parts shrill, and you won't improve if you brush that aside as just needing a little "rounding out."
A good tune needs at least a few elements, which you haven't provided here:
- An original hook or groove that listeners won't mind hearing several times over;
- A general musical direction, that will make listeners want to find out what happens next, so to speak. This applies to both individual elements and the overall structure.
- Smooth transitions (or very strategically placed sharp ones), in order to give some cohesion to different elements.
- A particular style that defines your sound. This is a less tangible but still critical quality, and you can't achieve it by throwing everything but the kitchen sink into the same track.
That's all I have to say in reply - take it or leave it. |
