Cheap AD/DA?

I need 2 more ins and outs, but I don't want to have to buy a new soundcard. Anyone know of a cheap AD/DA that will let me use those neglected SPDIF plugs?
Requirements:
- The analog IO must all be balanced.
- I don't mind DIY.
- I'd like at least ~110db SNR.
- I only need AD/DA... no headphone amps, preamps, gain control, etc.
The SPDIF plugs aren't ADAT, so that rules out the Behringer ADA8000. |

I think you're out of luck but I think you might be looking for the wrong thing....
Every SPDIF to balanced converter I've seen is either an audiophile or pro studio item and is going to cost you $500+.
SPDIF is not techincally a balanced signal, so unless you need to a long a very run coming out of the converter I don't know why you'd need a balanced line out of it?
SPDIF is also not rated to the S/N ratio you're looking for which is why the units that do SPDIF to Balanced are seriously more expensive becuase there's all kinds of dark magic going on in there.
I'd just go with a small spdif to RCA for like $20 - Gefen do one that's really cheap and OK quality and I think so do Behringer. |
