This is something that I thought about too when reading the article. One thing that ruins the festival spirit are all the complainers about loud music and what not that get the city and police after us.

canadian festivals don't know how to book decent music. just like canadian radio stations are complete crap - there is not one good mainstream station (i imagine there is some good college radio or something, but i haven't found it). it's not north america, it's canada. coachella always has a brilliant line up. and SXSW is miles ahead of NXNE. v fest was the only semi-decent thing we had that i can think of, and even then it was sorely lacking.

yeah right...

Take note toronto, move to new york LOL

you say that. But while the festival should be amazing (made events is uber-organized and I loove all their parties), our venues are constantly being shut down and we have no proper big space (roxy, twilo, sound factory, Exit, Avalon, Spirit, Crobar all shut down....and the list goes on....that just in the last 6 years!!)

IE: toronto > NYC in big venues,

NYC > Toronto in festivals (maybe...we will see next weekend, eh?)

Sad part is it used to be the complete opposite. Our parties and radio were far superior to the US. Funny what a difference a decade makes

markham fairgrounds can accomidate 25-30,000
ample parking.. accessible by ttc.. go transit.. york region transit.. viva.. 2 highways nearby.. 25 minutes from downtown

OR.. if you had the acts that draw.. people would make the trek to places like burls creek and camp out all weekend!

Mebbe but it all depends.

Maybe I'm using the wrong analogy, but I went to this lounge back home, opening night and even from what I was seeing/hearing/talking to people (relatives) even THEY have NOISE restrictions, the speakers outside have to be underneath a tarp/tent/covered area and after a certain time they shut it all down in terms of how loud it can be...

I'm sure it's just all the EU restrictions, but still...you can't have paradise until someone comes along and s it up eventually...
