Tiesto's new song "Louder than Boom" (pg. 3)

Let's say we do not know the name of the producer. Let's also say: judge the track merely on the principles of a good edm track, how would we rule on this track then:
1. Is the track well produced?
by all means yes it is. Been blasting this track through my nice set of KRK VXT6 monitors and the track blasts. Well mastered, well arranged, good mixdown.
2. Will the track do well on a dancefloor?
Hard not to agree on this one, it will rip the dancefloor up if placed well in a mix. Perfect for Tiesto, Marco V sets (let's not get into an agurment about his dj skills here, he obviously attracts a great amount of people :D ) This producer (Tiesto in this case) clearly knows what a crowd wants. And everyone here attending big parties know that this track is what we will enjoy if it stands out in a mix.
3. Is it original?
Yes it is, especially if one looks at the beatport trance top 100. This track is hardly definable as trance but still is categorised as such. Therefore it is quite original in that genre. It has distinctive unique sounds, a not all that generic structure and is a lot more recognisable than most of the a state of trance kind of trance that is dominating the charts.
4. Does the track have a good hook?
Anyone who produces knows this track has a good hook. Whether you like the track or not, the melody will stick and even the tetris sounds (it is love or hate here there is no gray area) will stick. Combined with point 2, this track has good hit potential added to the fact that it indeed is produced by Tiesto who has a big name already.
5. Does this producer have a unique own sound?
Yes he does, whatever we can say about Tiesto, his tracks are recognisable, he has a trademark. Again some will say his trademark is utter e, others will love him for it, however it is hard for a producer to create an own sound and this producer certainly does. Where as most producers are just following which is hard enough as well. Louder than Boom is immediately recognisable as Tiesto, and that fact itself is something to be proud of as a producer.
Taste is subjective. Of course everyone is allowed to hate the track, that is the fun thing about taste. However these days it seems very easy to slate a Tiesto track just because it is Tiesto. My personal opinion, judging his latest three tracks from his upcoming album, is that he has grown as a producer and he is experimenting a bit more. There is a good chance that I will dislike a few of his tracks. But Louder than Boom is a good solid track and I actually like it as a club floor ripper and in a way continues Tiesto's tradition to have one big floorfiller on each album (Flight 643, Traffic and now Louder than Boom). |

actually I'm of the opposite opinion. I think that people, especially Tiesto's own fans, are much more forgiving when it comes to his productions. No matter how ty track he release they are always like "it's still nice... hey it's Tiesto...". Like if it's some ing excuse.
And If we follow your original formula by not knowing the producer I'm sure that many of Tiesto's track would never get the amount of airplay it have got. And that you can't deny.
Just go out on youtube and you will find every mislabeling every other track as a Tiesto production. Like if he was some kind of god that have created 50% of all trance tracks ever produced. |
