I don't know how many people are aware of this little gem, but joss posting the youtube embed reminded me of this. It allows you to to take any audio or video type and re-encode it however you want. This even includes splitting audio off of say an .flv file you may have downloaded from youtube or imeem. It does everything that http://www.media-convert.com does, but right on your computer, without having to wait for their server.

| mediacoder is probably the best software for this kind of stuff. and it also enables you to crop, add subtitles and choose the audio channel |
