I just saw this on gawker. The vid is a great throw back. The comment by Roger Trilling about New York nightlife working in cycles is still true now. I thought the vid was interesting because it showed Danceteria, Roxy, and Paradise Garage the way it used to be. It was great seeing several genres of music in their early development, made me compare to how music has progressed off this considering a lot of people still reference all three clubs. The interviewers were horrible but seeing old Rock Steady and Africa Bambaataa compensated for it.

Classic, I must meet you and your hubby,lol..However Area was the king...
"So, after 25 buildups and tear-downs, Area closed in early 1987 with “Childhood,” a nice symbolic touch suggesting a life lived backward. For years after, I felt a twinge of nostalgia whenever I passed the site, at 157 Hudson Street in TriBeCa. When something like Area comes along, you think, This is a first! But when you think, This is a first, it’s often really a last. Area suggested a brilliant future, where night life and art would merge. And they did, for a moment, with reckless abandon." |

You have to skip what you are doing and come tomorrow. Then you can meet us and hear great music. |
