i'm not saying that we will win, but after the stacle of turin and playing on home ice there is no way you can't call them favourites. |
Sure Canada will come in the favorites, and they definitely have as good a chance as Russia to win, however, I think Russia will win regardless.
As much as Canada wants to win on home ice, Russia is coming in there to spoil their party and want to show that Russian hockey is better/stronger then Canadian hockey.
On top of that, the Russian team plays together ALOT more then the Canadian team. The Russian team already has a sick chemistry. |

Ya, and the two best players in the league.
I don't even care that your 3rd and 4th lines are teh sux. When Ovechkin and Malkin are each scoring a pair every game, and Semin's skatin around deking our entire defense, I'ma be bitching like a madman at home watching Canada lose their game against Russia. |

The third line isnt that bad either... federov, kovalev and either morozov or radulov.
I think morozov will actually be on the second line because he is the #1 superstar of the russian super league.
And as much as Yashin has done for russian hockey, I think he should seriously step down and let someone younger and more productive take his spot. |

Russians will have the most dynamic top line, that's for sure. What they won't have, at least as much, is young, physical players on the blue line and overall depth. I also feel that Canadians finally did their coaching staff selection right.
The last two IIHF world championships were won by Russia, however the Olympics is a different animal. |

The Russian Defense corps is a sexy monster too. And with Ovechkin skating around shoulder-first into every Canadian he can see, they won't need to be physical either ;) |

Thats exactly why the Russians have the edge, they play together more often and have developed a good chemistry.
The Russians can be physical if they want to. |

Not really Olympics talk.
Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger
Dan Boyle, Mike Green
Jay Bouwmeester, Shea Weber
vs
Andrei Markov, Sergei Gonchar
Anton Volchenkov, Sergei Zubov
Fedor Tyutin, Denis Grebeshkov
The difference is substantial. Age, size, offensive potential. That is, of course, if both Gonchar and Zubov can recover from their injuries/surgeries well enough. |
