Ok, so trance started a logn time ago, and the question is always being asked "where will trance be in x years time???"
Well after experiencing trance from 98 onwards, really getting into trance in 99 i can safely say i havent got a clue.
A few years back i would say that there would be a new trance sound mixed with a new genre that may come trhough, or a regeneration. But now every year we get a new genre of trance, like, last year prog trance being very popular, this year tech trance, and in 99 i would say more uplifting and pure trance.
But this year we have heard a lot of old tunes being remixed to a harder style. Like cafe del marco. So maybe trance is turning into a harder genre, going down the hard trance route, and tech trance. Or maybe in a few years time we will be back to uplifting trance being most popular.
But i still consider the trance scene which i hear to be very much underground still.
Myabe the future of trance is not to become commercial as many thought, or maybe not just yet.
So wot are your ideas on the future of trance???
Myabe we will have a new era of trance combining with other genres to make totally fresh new sounds, or maybe with the progression of synths and other technical tools, we will hear better quality, and increasing levels of productions, with oh i dont no
I just wonder what it will be like.
What do you think it will be like in 5 years time??
Because one thing is sure it is evolving year on year :)

| imo, trance goes crap then comes back stronger, while other trance sub-genres step into the limelight. all in all, i think all trance does is continue to sound more professional, and as gibbo pointed out to me, a lot of older trance basses suck bigtime (eg. martin eyerer - euphoria lol) |

Hmm, a question which comes up at the start of each year.
I think Trance is going to split more and more into two sections, a harder style (perhaps more underground in nature) and then a commercial style which is going to getting played on all the radios. Something that may be more cheesy, but will also see trance becoming more mainstream. |

my thoughts exactly...sometime soon trance will have to go through a nasty phase of being chewed up by america and then spit out. But the style in which Cosmic Gate/Dumonde/Scot Project spin will never go mainstream, and it's going to continue to thrive and get bigger.
cheers

i think thats because of a natural evolution of the sound, because people try and try to create different and more complicated sounds which after a while sound "better" than the others, and equiptment too because better over time, etc. |

you look at other genres and see that once they are established, they never really go out of style, artists just continue contributing to it
take for example, something like R&B. i'm sure some of the songs today by top R&B artists like alicia keys, would've still been popular 10 or 20 years back
i hope that the 99 uplifting style of trance never goes out of style!

| Yeah, it just gets better and better I think. Not much evolving. |
