The best thing you can do if you disagree with him, is find common ground on the subject. Usually when there are deep divisions on a subject the truth lies somewhere in the middle. If it was 9/11 related and you agree that there should be a new investigation, then you don't need to go any farther than that. That's all the victims families and the 9/11 activists want.
Also,

Basically the situation is this friend of my aunt's, claimed some NWO bull and I called him out on it. He then says that he is an independent thinker and all this. |
I'd have inquired if his thinking was independent from the facts :p |

That's analogous to asking "How can I convert someone to another religion?". |
wrong.. because there is no right religion. and there is a difference between myth and truth.
analogous would have to mean something similar. |

I would disagree because many people believe that their religion is the only right religion. |

Many people are wrong and there is a difference between faith and fact.
Usually conspiracy theorists have some sort of factual evidence, where religious people simply have blind faith. |

Agreed, but these people aren't logical. Nor are they easily reasoned with. |

I don't think there's really a conspiracy theorist mindset, just a lot of stupidity directed at a certain subject. Some conspiracy theories are probably true. Some are quite convincing despite being unproven. Others are, however, obviously ludicrous.
The difference between a heathily cynical person and a conspiracy theorist is merely that the latter lack the logic and intelligence to tell the likely from the ludicrous. |
