haha oh yea totally forgot about that LaRonde buyout ! wells the park is only gonna get better now that it's under Six Flags new management. They'll put a Superman in every park and then futher build more coasters according to the park theme ..
can't wait for their new ride .. "The Separatist" hehe :P |

Darien lake would be the closest Six Flags (2 hr drive), but in my opinion isn't that much better than Wonderland (but it's still a lot cheaper if you buy tickets from CAA). As far as I remember, some of their coasters are clones. After Superman, Mind Eraser is probably their second most popular coaster, but it's pretty much a clone of Top Gun at Wonderland. They also have a boomerang coaster (clone of the Bat at Wonderland).
Now that Six Flags bought Laronde in Montreal, it got a nice looking coaster already with others in the works. Hopefully this will force some competition within Canadian parks :)
The park I'd like to visit the most, if it weren't so far away, is Six Flags Magic Mountain down in California. 36 hour road trip though, lol.. |

I *almost* visited Magic Mountain for Coaster Con last month but I'm glad I skipped out since "X" has been closed down most of the spring/summer months... :( :(
That said, why drive when flying is so much cheaper? When you add up the cost on one hand you've got many hotel rooms, petro, and many days worth of food plus wear and tear on your auto...on the other you've got the airfare, a car rental (since mass transit sucks ass in the States) and a couple of nights board...to me it seems like it'd end up being roughly equal cost... |

The coasters as known as clones because most of the parks hire the same contracting engineers to build them. so there's already a laid out plan for the ride all they do is slap a different name on it. I know for a fact that most of the coasters are done by this European company called B&M.
Personally I think it's worth the drive to hit up a park you've never been to even if it's 85% similar. After a while don't you guys just get sick of Wonderland?? And I wouldn't mind going on a 210ft roller coaster every now and then..
I was supposed to go to Cali this year too and hit up Magic Mountain! Thanx CortexBomb for the heads up on X.. good thing i didn't. maybe X-mas then .. |

Yeah, I noticed X was closed too. And I was just kidding around with the 36 hour road trip thing, lol.. I'm not insane enough to do that.. I get tired after 5 hours of driving, no way I can sustain 36 hours :p
And Bolliger & Mabillard make some of the best loopers around, I'd really wish we'd get one of those (they beat some of the hypercoasters in my opinion)... I'd like to go to Darien Lake again but since Superman seems to be the only coaster that sets it apart from Wonderland to me, there needs to be more motivation to go there (i.e. maybe getting a Six Flags season's and going to all the Six Flags parks around it :)) |

Getting a Six Flags season pass is really the way to go if you travel around much...they have parks near practically every major metropolitan area in the States as well as La Ronde in Montreal.
As per B&M: :Shrug: They do some decent rides, I think if Wonderland gets anything from them it's going to be a non-looping "Hyper" (200 feet plus first drop) style layout though...Wonderland already has it's fair share of loopers IMHO.
desidel: actually, B&M have only 1 operating coaster in Canada, the new Vampire inverted coaster at La Ronde (which is actually a clone of the 9 million Batman: The Ride installations at Six Flags parks in the States). The easiest way to tell a B&M is by the trains, B&M coasters all have 4 across seating instead of the normal 2 across.
And word is out that "X" might be reopening before the end of summer. My best advice is to look up the customer service number on the Six Flags web site and call ahead before you plan a trip out there for it...it's a prototype and has been experiencing major downtime :( |

Just a rumour, nothing more. Strangely it got so widespread that Wonderland actually put a full page ad in either the Sun or the Star specifically saying that they weren't going to move the park and that the rumour was completely unfounded which gives you an idea of just how well-known the story was getting...
It flat out never made sense to me to begin with...sure in Niagara you've got a large tourist trade but why move away from one of the largest metropolitan areas in Canada? The closest parks are each at least a couple hours away so you've got the benefit of the "captive audience", and a large one at that! |

I wouldn't mind getting a hypercoaster up here.. most major parks have atleast one now and mega parks like Cedarpoint get Millenium Force altho i've heard that people still like the Magnum over it. In any case we pale in comparison with most parks. The 4 abreast coaches seem to go a lot faster too. i remember riding Kumba at Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay that was one of the sickest coasters i've been on .. |

How did this rumour even start? I didn't believe it for a second based on logic -- firstly, it takes a load of money just to make a move like that, secondly, you would move away from a location that doesn't have any other parks nearby (i.e. Wonderland has a monopoly, which is unfortunate in ways), and lastly, it's already in a location that attracts a lot of tourists in addition to the existing large population base (i.e. the GTA).. |
