Well now. I feel like dog. But I had an absolute blast last night. And I still haven't gotten any sleep.
Let me start this review by saying that the Hard Rock has a ed up Dress Code. I got there just before 10:20 and they told me "no work boots." I was wearing my black and red Timberlands. I was like WTF. I never heard of anything so atrocious. I was about to go home when I decided to try the other security checkpoint. They didn't even card me and let me in right away. I waited outside Gryphon for a bit, paranoid as that those security s were gonna come get my ass because I could swear they saw me. Anyway, I got into Gryphon, no more paranoia. Hard Rock security, suck my dick.
Into Gryphon and apparently, from what DJ Eddie G told me, CJ was holding some kind of DJ Contest, so I saw a buncha different DJs behind the decks for the opening set. So yeah, talk about a variety. Relik arrived and IDd at least 2 or 3 Andy Moor tracks from one of the DJs. I don't know which one was RiotGear. Did he even play? I don't even know. :conf: Chatted it up with av1. Good seeing you after all this time, bro.
After all that, George came on and delivered his trademark banging set. The only song I could ID was a remix of Dash Berlin w/Cerf, Mistiska and Jaren - Man on the Run. I lost my mind. And recorded it. Uploading that to my youtube account as I type this review up.
After George came Eddie G. He closed the night with his usual great brand of set. Couldn't ID anything he played.
I made a critical error on my camera and lost my dj pics of Eddie on the decks but he DID play. :whip: I was too drunk. Goddamnit.
In any case, it was great seeing Relik, av1, Gerry Cueto and my usual crew out there tonight. Pics coming in the next post. Def looking forward to another night at Gryphon....but I'm gonna need a pair of sneakers to avoid this dress code bull. :whip: (I usually only wear boots.) in' Hard Rock security dress code bull....Jesus Christ.
End of review.

Here are my 2 videos.
George Acosta playing an ID
George Acosta playing an unknown remix of Dash Berlin w/Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren - Man on the Run. I'm going crazy in this vid :o
Something I forgot to mention in my initial review. When I was in Gryphon this guy came into the club wearing a chain around his neck. av1 saw it, we were talking about it. Now this thing was literally big enough to tie down the Titanic! Those security guards were enforcing "work boots," or whatever, but they let a guy wearing a chain THAT big in? WTF? :wtf:
Anyway, enjoy the vids. If anyone can ID either one, it'd be appreciated.

ya i played.....
they had a dj contest first for the New Times. They had to kick off two of the djs because they were just playing hard as heck for opening the club. It is what it is i guess. I went on after the guy that you had in the picture above. Went on around 11:45 up until George took over. He did do a great job. Good songs. Good vibe in the room. Great night in my opinion.
I saw a some of Eddie's set which was great. Ended up getting hungry as heck and went inside for some late night Blue Plate Cafe :)
Thanks to all who came out!!!!!

Good times. Heard about an hour of the opener & he was dropping upbeat house. Nothing mindblowing, yet mixing was on point & did what an opener is supposed to do, get the room warmed up for the headliner. Then @ 1 am Acosta came on & delivered a mostly bangin trance set. His set had a good variety of trancy sounds, everything from vocals, to melodic, to high BPM, to techy & hard trance as well. Only saw 2 TAs, DA & Relik. Yet there was a nice turnout & the crowd was definitely into Acosta's set. Lastly props to Gryphon for having good sound, lighting and great staff as well. That room has potential.

I'm confused... There was a "DJ contest" & two of the dj's got kicked off for playing music that was too hype?
What were they judging the contest on?
Warmup skills & Mixing ability?

Don't know. This has been going on for about 2 months. The winner gets to headline at Gryphon in Oct. I think they're judging on how well the DJ is specifically for that spot. I'm not 100% positive about that though.
