Yeah, I read that in AUTA a couple of days ago. So funny.

I'm thinking of moving to Germany next year and I was on an US-based expat site which warned against automated cameras on highways. The whole tone of the article was as if they were something completely foreign to Americans.

Do you have a lot of automated cameras down there? There are hardly any up here in Bris. I can only think of two, off the top of my head. There are plenty of cop-operated cameras though, in random spots all over the place. |

I used to live about 5 mins walking distance from the 3rd most dangerous intersection in the US.
instead of people getting in accidents in the intersection, they'd have rear-enders from people slamming on the brakes; not wanting to get caught by the red-light cameras ololol |

Why weren't people already slowing down for red lights? :wtf: |

The crossing road of the intersection (Roosevelt Boulevard) is the main thoroughfare of most of the city (12 lanes, divided into 4 sections, 2 each in opposing directions) its the one going from bottom left to upper right in map below
A lot of people making a left turn onto that road from the cross street (Grant) feel they HAVE to turn into the lane that's closest to them instead of moving to the furthest lane (even though there's crossovers placed frequently along the medians.) They have to wait for the batch of cross traffic on their left to clear, of course. Although, if they moved up to the next lanes, they could easily make the turn without waiting.
Anyway, just one of these people backs up all the traffic behind them, causing the intersection to be full of cars when Roosevelt traffic gets the green. Causing Roosevelt traffic to sometimes be stuck in the intersection at the next light switch, causing more timing errors, etc. :p |

i got my third parking ticket in 2-3 weeks recently. the ing council has hired some new (motivated) inspectors and they've been checking all my usual spots (normally right at the top of big hills coz like those s are gonna bother walking up that er twice a day).
it remains to be seen whether the $35/ticket onslaught will be able to get me out of bed earlier, in order to compete for the limited free parking in the morning.
im really jewish but i love my sleep, so it should be an interesting battle. |
