Having released on leading labels including Steve Lawler’s Viva Music, Dave Seaman’s Audio Therapy and Oliver Klein’s Mutekki label, Californian resident Erphun has earned a growing reputation for brooding, mood-soaked productions that have the ability to cross genre boundaries from progressive house to tech house and techno due to the unique sound and trademark underground vibe.
Featuring the vocals of Narcotourist lead singer Cari Golden, Bad Seed is heavy, pulsing progressive house of epic proportions with a gently building, low-slung groove and dark atmospherics complimented by Golden’s emotive vocal refrain.
D-Nox & Beckers (Sprout, Systematic) add their touch to the release by pumping up the groove with a rolling bass lick and adding loops of bleepy melody and conga percussion while leaving space to work the vocal hook to maximum effect.
Erphun provides his own Rotten Dub as an alternative to the original. More stripped back with an injection of swing onto the groove, this mix takes the tension and mood of the original and layers them over shifting mechanical beats.
